Calgary Wedding Photographer ~ Erik & Michela’s Calgary Zoo Wedding Day

Erik & Michela’s Calgary Zoo Wedding Day

Red Bloom Photography

Finally getting back into the groove of blogging my weddings!  I fell a little behind this summer

cause I had 19 weddings in 11 weeks but I love to share my couples weddings stories with you

all and this is the best way for them to share their wedding story with their friends & family.

Erik & Michela found me through a family member, who just happens to be the

ridiculously amazing talent behind Kristilee Parrish Photography .  Nothing like the added

pressure of having an amazing photographer in the family haha.  The instant that I met Michela

I knew that we were a great fit. We got along great and her vision for her day was right on

target for my vision for my wedding photography.  Erik & Michela got married in August

and I would have to agree with them that the speeches were the most memorable moment of

their day.  They had an a charming mix of humor and cute memories and their was

some very touching moments where the speakers honored a late friend who was meant

to be part of the wedding day.  When Michela said that their day was about the people attending

she really meant it. You could tell during the reception that this couple is very loved and

very very close with the people in their lives.

Okay enough rambling from me, here are some words from the couple =)

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride: our wedding speeches
Groom: “the speeches” (he didn’t know that’s what I put haha)Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

-The church (St. Albert the Great) received the stained glass windows from the former

St. John’s Catholic Church (destroyed due to fire), where BOTH of our parents got married.
So it was like getting married in our parents’ church.
-The priest who married us, also married BOTH of our parents coincidentally!
-The priest has the same name as my husband (Fr. Eric Nelson and Erik Nelson).
-Incorporated a Filipino ceremony tradition called the “chord and veil,” as I am part Filipino.
Advice to couples planning their country(?) wedding day?
Bride: Always see the big picture, the little details don’t matter. Although decorations
may look pretty, spending (and stressing for) hours upon hours isn’t really worth it. In the end it was
the people attending who made the day special for us. Oh.. and always introduce your wedding party
in some shape or form. I hate not really knowing why people are part of a wedding party.
Clearly they are important to you, so make it evident to your guests! 🙂
Groom: Allow some room for spontaneity (we asked Erik’s brother to be the
MC for our wedding, and later found out that he had never attended a wedding before).
