Mike & Alaina’s Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta Wedding

I am so excited to share my first wedding of 2017 and what a way to start off my year!!
I headed down just a few weeks ago to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with these two and their
closest friends and family for their intimate beach wedding. Mike & Alaina got married at
Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta and what I loved about this hotel is that it isn’t
a mega structure giant hotel like all the other Mexican hotels that I have stayed at. It
was smaller and had the best food and staff ever. Every single day at the pool our
waiters remembered us and were so friendly and gave fun and good service.
What I loved more then this hotel was having the pleasure to spend a week with
amazing friendly people. There is something extra special about destination weddings.
I think it is the connection of everyone traveling so far to get there and being together
for the whole week. Everyday at the pool they had a section together and they
were all laughing and drinking together!
With destination weddings I like to timeline the day with my couples. The reason is that
the resorts like to put the ceremony quite late and that doesn’t leave alot of time for
photos. This is why alot of couples do Rock the Dress sessions, but Mike and Alaina
preferred to do all their photos on the wedding day. So what we did is we planned the
day to capture some of the photos before the ceremony. So with careful planning and
making sure the bride and groom didn’t see each other we did part of the photos.
First I took Mike and the groomsmen for a bit and then Alaina and the bridesmaids
for a bit. We mostly tried to stay in the shade so they don’t get too sweaty but lets
face it, it was 29 degrees so there was some sweating ha ha. After their beautiful
beach ceremony we finished off their photos with that golden sunset that you get over
the ocean on the PV side. Having shot on both sides of Mexico I can’t pick a favorite,
they both have such different skies at sunset. Their reception was full of great speeches and an
amazing dance!!! Their DJ had the best lighting set up that I have ever seen. Love their
dance photos. Such a party…i was shaking along with them while I took photos. ha ha
Alright enough blabbing from me. Here are some words from the bride & groom
We met through mutual friends at the Drum and Monkey Pub in Calgary. A few hang outs turned into dates,
What made you decide to do a destination wedding?
We are both beach people and love the ocean! But honestly, when the day came that we started talking
about marriage, we both had the same idea of having destination wedding. Not only did we
like the idea of saying our ‘I do’s’ while listening to the waves of the ocean, We liked the fact
that all of our guests get a holiday and that both sides of the family (some of who had not met until Mexico)
were able to spend a whole week getting to know each other. This meant a lot to us. It’s not every day that
all of our favorite people are in one place!
Why did you pick Fiesta Americana?
Growing up, Mike vacationed with his family in Puerto Vallarta and he shares
many fun memories in this part of Mexico. After visiting PVR together this past spring,
I could see why Mike is so fond of this area, it only made sense to us to celebrate our wedding here.
We chose the Fiesta Americana Resort & Spa, with the help of our Travel Agent, (Mike’s Mom) Cathy,
she had done a familiarization trip to this resort and she had nothing but good things to say about it!
We also liked the size, it’s a smaller, quaint, boutique-y style resort. We felt it was more intimate
for our gathering and the reviews were all very positive on Trip Advisor, as it ranks
#8 our 125 resorts in PVR.
Groom When I saw Alaina walk down the aisle, that was my best memory of the trip!
Not only did we get a vacation from the cold Calgary winter, we got to spend an
Trust the wedding coordinator. (they’ve done this before!) They take care of everything, all of the set up
