My Boudoir Session with Lexy Parks
As a boudoir photographer it is so very important to also book boudoir sessions.
I try to do this every few years and I hire a different photographer each time.
Professional photography and the experience of being photographed is so very important to me.
And I think I would be a bit of a hyprocrit if I did not hire professional photographers to
photograph me! I budget every single year to have a photoshoot done. That budget goes towards
boudoir, or photos with my husband or personal branding photos. In 2017 that budget went
towards this session.
I am going to be honest and share that I almost walked away from my retainer from this
session. I was not feeling good about my body so I was ready and willing to walk away from
the non-refundable retainer. But I stopped and I said to myself. This is my body at this age
and in 3 years who knows where I will be or what I will look like or if I will even be here.
As morbid as that sounds it is so very true. So I did the damn shoot and I am so happy I did.
Not feeling the best about my body at the time, I knew that outfit shopping was so important.
I wanted outfits that fit great, were right for my body and that were the right size. I do not
care one bit about the size on the label. I would wear a medium to a XXL if it fit right. It really
does not matter to me. I chose this blue bodysuit as I am tummy conscious. It was the perfect
fit but did not give great shape on my chest so I paired it with the matching colored bra from
Victoria Secret. And the ivory two piece was a match made in heaven for me. The high rise undies
kept my tummy tucked away and I loved the cut of the bra. The other two outfits were just ones
that I had in my closet. I did five outfits total (not all images are on this blog) and it was two
much. Looking back now I wish I had focused on 3 outfits rather then changing so many times.
Three Reasons why I knew Lexy was the perfect fit
from the moment I found her
I will be honest I am incredibly fussy with style but once I find the photographer
that I love then I give my 100% trust to them. My search for my 2017 boudoir photographer
was a long one! I wanted to find a photographer who had style I loved but also I wanted to find
someone who I felt I could learn from as well. So I wanted someone who has bits in their style
that would work with my style. What I felt I could learn from Lexy was some of her posing.
Her retouching & tones
I wanted a photographer who retouched the images but kept them true to me and that is exactly
how Lexy edits. She removes “todays problems” but doesn’t change your size or remove
stretch marks and cellulite. Which is pretty much how I edit as well so I instantly
loved that about her. Lexy’s tones (colors of her images) are amazing. They are not too muted,
not too saturated. They are exactly what I was looking for.
Her lighting
I just loved her moody lighting. Even though my style is a mix, I really wanted moody lighting
for this session.
Her posing
As soon as I landed on Lexy’s instagram I knew her posing was a great fit. I loved the way she
posed her clients and that everything looks posed. I am very much not a fan of images that look
like they were taken mid movement. I am the very very opposite of being a natural in front of the
camera when it comes to boudoir so I wanted someone who was bossy and would give me
amazing direction.
And lastly on top of all of this. I wanted someone who would shoot me in my space and Lexy
had a trip planned to Alberta so we lined up my session with her trip.
Getting my photos back
When I received my photos back I actually had my husband pick them with me. In total I bought
34 images and I think we only agreed on 12 or so of those. So some of the final 34 were his choices and
some of the final 34 were my choices. It was quite clear that he loved the ones that were most
real of me….the ones where I thought the posing was not the most flattering but he just loves
natural images of me so he was drawn to those right away!
My favorite images are all of the ones in the white outfit! It was my favorite. I loved the poses we did in that
outfit and I LOOOOOOOVE the booty shots in that outfit!
It has been 3 years since this session and I was supposed to have my session with
Ashtyn Nicole Photography in Arizona this Spring but I had to postpone it due to
Covid. I can not wait to go and see her.
Disclaimer about my spray tan
I want to make a note that my spray tan was way too dark. This was my first spray tan ever and before
I started to promote spray tans to my girls. I am metis so olive skin toned to start and the girl told me
to go medium/dark but more dark for the tan and I listened. If I went today I would ask for a natural
glow just like a shade darker then I am for that natural sun kissed glow. This tan is really dark and extra dark with the
way that Lexy edits and shoots. I still love the images I just want to put that as a disclaimer…
Do not go this unnaturally dark for your skin tone.
