I always recommend to my wedding couples to do their engagement session in a different season

then their wedding. This just makes for the session to be that much more unique and it also usually helps with

spacing out the two sessions. Not all couples are up for a winter session but it is so amazing when they are

as winter is so magical and is my absolute favorite to shoot in.

How & when did you two meet? What was your first date?

Garrett and Courtney were introduced by Garrett’s younger brother Brendan, who

Courtney went to high school with in 2007. They didn’t really get to know each other until 2011 when they

both happened to be in Toronto at the same time. Garrett’s Uncle Terry invited him up to the cottage

in Muskoka (“and bring friends if you want!”), so Courtney also got an invite. She brought 3 of her University

Business Conference friends she was visiting along as well, and by the end of the whirlwind “first date” weekend,

Courtney and Garrett had plans to meet up again in Calgary. This is the same place that Garrett

ended up proposing last summer.

Do you have all time favorite date you’ve been on? please tell me about it

Garrett’s all time favourite date was the first birthday of his we celebrated at the Telus Spark Adults

Only night – it was one of the first of these events. We built a very memorable tube maze that the

very impressed staff took a video of.

Courtney’s favourite date was when Garrett took her to Panorama the summer after she graduated with

her undergrad for some chill time. Archery, mini golf and hiking were all on the agenda.

What is your favorite trip or experience you two have done together? What made it so special? 

We have been so lucky to have traveled to some amazing places together in the last almost 9 years it’s

hard to choose! Last year, we explored India for 2 weeks (the Taj Mahal was definitely the highlight of that

trip). In 2018, Kenya was our destination of choice with Courtney’s family. The animal sightings were just so

surreal – it was a trip we will never forget! 

If you were coming home from a day out on your own and you wanted to

surprise your significant other with a treat/drink/gift what would it be?

His answer: Spiro’s Annah’s Island Pizza

Her answer: Village Salted Caramel Ice Cream or Granville Island Winter Ale
