Canmore Wedding Photographers
JD & Alix’s Murrieta’s Bar & Grill Wedding

I am so digging my adventurous couples this year and how they are
embracing the rain on their wedding day! It was forecasting rain all day
for this Canmore wedding so Alix went out and bought some cute umbrellas
for their wedding party and we spent about 45-60 minutes in the rain
capturing some amazing photos with cute umbrella props! I often get asked
what the plan is for rain and the simple answer is either embrace it and use
umbrella’s outside or book a indoor location. There are some beautiful spots in
Calgary that can be booked for photos and we did find a place in Canmore.
But why be inside when you can be outside surrounded by nature and
just keep the rain off your hair and makeup and you are set =)
JD & Alix had to make the last minute decision to move their ceremony
indoors and they found a hall that could accommodate them and their guests.
Here are some words from the couple about their day
How did you guys meet ? And please share the proposal story with us?
We met through a mutual friend (my bridesmaid Hilary McDermott actually) playing golf.
She was a curler (that’s how she knew JD) and worked at a golf course (how I knew her).
JD proposed after our first year of living together in Japan. It was my 28th birthday,
we were in a small seaside town called Otaru, and it was a complete surprise!
Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Bride: When I first entered the ceremony venue/walking down the aisle. Everyone
“stood for the bride” and I immediately started crying lol! I also love when
we ran outside onto the street in the middle of the reception to try and get a
picture with the mountains.
Groom: My favorite moment was our first dance.
Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?
JD and I love to go rock climbing and enjoy the outdoors. (We were actually o
n a week long bouldering trip in Squamish BC a week before the wedding on our
“pre-honeymoon”.) So it was important to us to have the wedding in Canmore
amongst the mountains. Unfortunately with the rain we didn’t get to see the
too much, but it’s the thought that counts right?
Probably the most unique thing we did for the wedding was the gender role
switch, having my brother stand up for me and having JD’s sister stand up for him.
Also the ceremony archway was homemade by my father & decorated by family,
also the cupcakes/cake were also homemade by a friend
(Caitlin Hughes, assisted by Julie Peters).
Advice to couples planning their mountain wedding day? and maybe advice on dealing with rain forecast.
Honestly, I would plan an indoor ceremony! The Miner’s hall had an amazing intimate
feel and if I could go back in time I would want to have it at that venue again,
even if it was sunny. You can always still do the pictures outside with the mountains.
But if you really want an outdoor ceremony (as we initially did) and you see rain in
the forecast: Clear umbrellas are a must, book an inexpensive backup venue (don’t worry about
losing the money, you save tons on stress), and most importantly have a
group of people arranged (family/friends) that you can rely on to help you
if you need to make a sudden change.
UMMMMM…amazing advice right there!!! Love what they had to say about the rain!
And here is JD & Alix’s wedding story
Storytelling involves watching for little moments that tell the story. Like this photo of a friend calling all the guests to let them know the
ceremony has been moved indoors. Preceremony toast to calm the nerves and give some well wishes =) SO CUTE!
I always ask my couples to wait until I am there to capture the gift giving moment. Look how excited they are! Watching videos about how to pin boutonnieres. And they all broke except JD’s ha ha These two photos were taken within seconds of each other by me and my second shooter. I love when things line up like this. Eeeep! First looks are the best!!! Rainy photos with cute umbrellas for the win! Clear umbrellas for me are best cause they are cute and keep the light on you =)Photobomb ha haThis cake though…YUM! Made by her friend. And no big deal just stopping traffic for the last photo of the day
