Our Ten Year Anniversary Session in Joshua Tree

I have been doing all the blogging of my own work for the last 5-6 weeks so I figured it
was time to turn the tables and blog one of my own sessions with my husband!
To celebrate out ten year wedding anniversary we planned a trip to Palm Springs
with our besties. And while there we also planned a photoshoot in Joshua Tree!
I was on the hunt for the perfect photographer and I was striking out and then my friend
Miranda mentioned that she hired this girl Ashtyn. I looked at Ashtyn’s site and instantly
fell in love with her work. I emailed her and asked her if she would travel to Joshua Tree
and she said heck yeah!
Hiring the perfect fit
Everyone thinks that cause I am a photographer I am a natural in front of the camera but I
actually need a lot of direction and one of the reasons I liked Ashtyn was because she said
she is comfortable with posing. Some photographers take a more candid approach and this
is just not our preference. We like someone who will give us the poses.
Ashtyn made this so easy and so fun! She is so laid back and has such a great eye.
She also lent me her jacket cause it was fricken cold. Us Canadians did not expect it to be
that cold in California but we were freezing. I didn’t even think to pack a sweater for the
shoot but luckily she had this cute black jacket. It was also SO SO WINDY!! Our hair
was blowing everywhere. I don’t know if that was normal for there but we had to embrace the
messy hair don’t care attitude for this shoot ha ha
Since this session Ashtyn has actually became
a really good friend of mine. She travelled to Canada last July for me to shoot her bridal boudoir
and we did another session with her at Moraine Lake. I will be travelling down to see her for
boudoir as well once it is safe to travel again!
Why I invest in professional photos
It is so important for me to invest in professional photos! Not only for the beautiful photos
of us but for the experience. It is a good reminder of what it is like for my couples to be
photographed. I also always learn from each photographer that we hire. Just the little
things they say during posing or how they interact with us.
