Bryce & Sarah’s Intimate Backyard Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

I will say it again and again and if you follow me and my work you will know this about me.

I am a huge sucker for a rustic farm/acreage wedding! I grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan and

surprisingly enough we did not have our own farm wedding so I think I live this farm wedding

dream through my couples. When I first met Sarah at our consult we were an instant match.

As she told me about their plans to get ready at the same house and have an outdoor ceremony

at Fish Creek Park followed by a tent reception at Bryce’s parents farm I just sat there

falling more and more in love with their wedding day.  She was just so darn cute too and so

laid back and I love me a laid back couple!  These two opted not to do an engagement session

so the first time I met Bryce was the day of the wedding. I pulled up to the acreage where they

were getting ready and this handsome cowboy practically sprints over to greet me and my

second shooter.  Just warm and welcoming from the second he saw us and that greeting

was extended to us by every single person at the house that morning. I have to say that

I just love when couples get ready in the same space. There is a few reasons for this and the

number one  is that for a number of reasons I will be shooting most of my weddings solo

from now on but the other main reason is I love the dynamic and the energy of having

the boys and girls under one roof.  Sarah got her makeup done in the master bathroom

and then we took turns using the living room space for the bride & the groom to get

dressed.  I almost always have my brides get dressed in the living room because most

master bedrooms don’t have a big open space so the bride is jammed between the bed and wall

or bed and TV type of thing. And this living room was stunning with a giant window and stone

fireplace. After the two of them sneakingly got dressed without seeing each other we moved

outside for a first look and man this was so cute, Bryce teared up and Sarah grabbed his bum.

This is totally something that my husband and I would do, he tends to be the mushy one and

I lean a little to the silly side ha ha.  From there we went to Fish Creek Park for some photos

and ran into several other weddings while we were there and then we headed to their

ceremony. It started to rain as we got to the ceremony site but everyone was prepared with

umbrellas so there was nothing but smiles. After the ceremony they took me to a family

property and we did some photos there….with about one million mosquitos as well! Probably

the worst that I have ever seen. So it was snap snap snap as quick as possible and back

to the limo.  Alright enough blabbing from me. Here are some words from this awesome couple.

How did you meet?

We met through Bryce’s best man Ryan Olson almost 6 years ago. Ryan and I became friends spring of 2010,

which I met Bryce that same summer.

Can you share the proposal story with us?
Bryce proposed Sept.26,2015 at Peyto Lake on our way up to Jasper for a weekend away. We stopped there to have a packed
lunch (and beers haha) as his boss said the views were amazing. As we were setting up our picnic off the beaten path,
I went to the ridge to take photos of the lake, which is a beautiful spot, turned around and
Bryce was on one knee!! Worst part was not being able to call my mom right away as
we didn’t have cell service till we got to Jasper haha
Most Memorable Moment
For both us was our ‘first look” blind reveal. Because we were not traditional and chose to have
our wedding photos before the ceremony, for us, being “blind folded” and waiting to see each other was the
best moment! Very emotional to see Bryce in his full outfit and for him to see myself with my hair, makeup
and dress on! It was so hard not to tell him any details, cause he’s my best friend and I tell him everything,
but definitely worth the wait!
Please share any special aspects that went into planing your day
Special aspects: I think that includes us wearing our cowboy boots. We are most comfortable wearing them
and represents our country lifestyle not to mention and it was amazing to be able to keep dancing all night long
in them! Having drink coozies for our guests, we always have a coozie around our beverage and we wanted our friends
and family to go home with something that they can actually use later, that we also really enjoy! Shot ski for
sure. Our MOH and best man gave that to us for an engagement gift and really got the party going! Being able to get photos
with our dog Barley was the best, hes such a big part of our lives, and having photos with our quad and shot guns
really portrays what we like to do together as a couple. Having a rice crispie cake instead of a cake cake!
We both aren’t huge fans of cake, my friend Brittany created us our awesome rice crispie cake as an alternative.
And also the rustic popcorn bar! As said before, we aren’t sweets people, so having popcorn over
candy was more us and was a huge hit with our guests!
Advice to couples planning a Intimate Acreage Wedding
Advice, yes for sure if its an outdoor wedding like ours, spraying for mesquites helped out alot!!
Remember bug repel-ant! It is important to take in your parents or friends advice/ideas on what you
should do or have at your wedding, but remember that it is YOUR day and it should reflect who you are as a couple!
Don’t worry about the weather, our wedding day was a 136 year record breaking for rain down pour,
since the 1920’s and it didn’t affect us one bit!! And rain is good luck anyways 🙂 Make sure you have
a relaxing night before the big day! it made a huge difference for the both of us to be able to go back to
our separate houses, hang out with our bridal party, watch a movie and just talk (maybe a few drinks),
but not having to go set up anything and just relax, cause if its not done by dinner time then it probably wont happen!
And here is Bryce & Sarah’s Wedding Story
