Summer Engagement Session in Canmore | Canmore Engagement Photographers

Red Bloom Photography

Canmore Engagement Photographers

This summer engagement session in Camore is just so extra special as we did it on

their original wedding date. Scott and Emily had their wedding date set at May 30th at

Cornerstone in Camore but 2020 had other plans and Covid pushed a reschedule.

They set a new date for 2021 but asked me if we could do an engagement session on

their original date and I said heck yes we can!  We picked a different mountain location

then where we are doing their wedding photos so that they have unique images from

both days! Their session is drenched in yummy light and oozes romance! They picked

the perfect two outfits with one being dressy and one casual. This is perfect for a longer

engagement session. We adventured around one of my favorite mountain locations and I

even jumped across a small stream to shoot on my favorite rock! This location is off the beaten path

and takes some adventuring to get around but it is worth the muddy shoes and steep hill climbs ha ha.

Here are some words from these two!

How & when did you two meet? What was your first date?

We met in High School math class. After that we were friends for 5 years before we decided

that we liked each other. Our first date was Valentine’s Day in Canmore.

Do you have all time favorite date you’ve been on? please tell me about it

Our favourite dates are beers on a patio or wine and a movie at home.

What is your favorite trip or experience you two have done together? What made it so special?

Los Angeles 2 years ago for my Grandma’s 90th Birthday. It was Scott’s

first USA trip, he loved the ocean!

Can you share the experience and emotions of being a COVID Couple?

What was the experience like with vendors/venue moving your date?

Being a COVID couple has been a mix of emotions. Disappointing after

almost waiting 2 years to get married, but nice to have more time to plan. Most vendors have been

very understanding and were very willing to re book.

How did you settle on your new plan vs doing a wedding now party later plan?

We didn’t want COVID to dictate what our wedding was going to be like.

We dreamed and planned for our wedding and we decided that postponing was the

best option. We also thought getting “real” married and having a party later would make it

less special. We want everyone to be there.

If you were coming home from a day out on your own and you wanted to

surprise your significant other with a treat/drink/gift what would it be?

His answer: Flowers

Her answer: Beer and Candy

Current Binge Watch on your TV?

Parks and Recreation and Friends for the 10000 time haha

Now for fun a little game like the shoe game at weddings.

Who is the better cook?

His answer: Me, but I never do it. I really should get in the kitchen more. I do barbecue though!

Her answer: Me! I do most of the cooking and baking. Scott was a chef when he was younger, I wish he would cook more!

Who is the better dancer?

His answer: She is. I don’t like to dance.

Her answer: We are both really awkward but I love to dance. Scott laughs at my moves haha

Who made the first move?

His answer: Me. I liked Emily but I had to wait for her to get out of a relationship to go for it.

Her answer: Scott did, but I had a crush on him for awhile.

Who said I love you first?

His answer: I did

Her answer: Scott did. I was going to University in Edmonton, Scott was living in Calgary and he said it before I went back to school one Fall.

Who is more likely to get a speeding ticket?

His answer: Probably Emily, but we are both pretty good drivers.

Her answer: Both of us. We get road rage sometimes haha

Who is more of goof?

His answer: Emily. She is always jumping around and she has a ton of nicknames for our dog, Finnegan.

Her answer: Scott is definitely funnier, but I am sillier.

Who is first to get up in the morning?

His answer: Me. Emily could sleep all day.

Her answer: Scott. He always has a project on the go.

And now my favorite images from their mountain adventure session

Summer Maternity Session at Confederation Park | Calgary Maternity Photographer

Ian & Jessica’s Maternity Session

Summer Maternity Session at Confederation Park

I am not sure which is more stylish, Jessica with her cute maternity dress or Roxy with

pearl collar ha ha.  I never say no to couples bringing their pups to sessions. And these

pups were so sweet and gave me lots of cuddles which I think should be required as well

if pups are coming to a session!

I love capturing maternity sessions and those super cute baby bumps. It is especially fun

when I have met the couple or momma before. Jessica had done a bridal maternity session

with me the year before so it was nice to catch up and chat all things wedding and pups

and baby on the way!

Moody In Home Lifestyle Engagement Session | Calgary Engagement Photographer

Moody In Home Lifestyle Engagement Session

Alyssa & Cody

This super moody in home (well in studio) lifestyle engagement session just

gives me all of the cozy romantic feels!!  I don’t get to photograph couples often in my

studio but when couples request it I am more then happy to do it! There is such a different

feel to in home/studio session vs outdoor sessions. Both are romantic but in different ways

and indoor ones just have that instant cozy intimate vibe and the posing is a bit different

with furniture and the lighting can be quite different as well. There was a giant storm cloud

over the studio this day so the whole session had a bit more of a moody vibe to it. I wouldn’t

say I am a moody photographer, I tend to kinda be right in the middle between light and airy and

a more moody style but sometimes sessions pull a little more one way and this was one of them.

Alyssa and I’s email chats go a ways back now. We started chatting quite awhile ago about their

intimate wedding and I helped them pick the perfect location for their mountain vision. And when

we finally did meet I knew these two were the perfect fit for me. I always love when couples are

cuddly at their consult cause that means they will have no problems cuddling during their

engagement and wedding photos!

These two are planning a beautiful mountain wedding so they wanted something very

different for their engagement session. Alyssa loved that cozy intimate feel of my in studio

sessions and asked if we could do that. I was like HECK YES!! We had to postpone a couple

times due to covid but when the day finally came it was worth the wait!

I asked these two to answer some questions!

Read below all about what they said

How & when did you two meet? What was your first date?

We met online (shocker, right?) in 2016. We met for drinks and a round of mini golf at a sports bar
one night, but things didn’t work out at the time. Months later, we reconnected and from that
moment on, it was pure magic. Timing really was everything to make our relationship what it is now,
and we are so happy that things worked out the way they did – we wouldn’t change a
thing. Our first date was in 2016 at one of Alyssa’s all-time favorite places – Zoo Lights.
This also happened to be the place Cody proposed in 2018 on the second anniversary
of our first date! We have recreated our first date every year on that day, and we don’t see
that stopping any time soon. We’re cutesy like that.

Do you have an all time favorite date you’ve been on?

We have two favorite dates! Our first favorite is going out for bowling and beers!
It never gets old for us because we end up laughing and being silly the entire time, and that’s
just who we are as a couple. Our second favorite is adventuring in the mountains.
We love spending time in Canmore and Banff, whether it’s enjoying a craft beer in a rooftop
hot tub with people from all over the world or finding a new walking trail. We can’t wait to have
our intimate wedding in Canmore this October!

What is your favorite trip or experience you two have done

together? What made it so special?

Our first trip together was to Las Vegas with Alyssa’s sister and brother-in-law. The four of
us are such great friends and some of our best memories are from that trip. From late night
stumbles to Shake Shack, shotgunning a beer in every single casino we stepped foot into, riding the roller
coaster three times in a row at New York New York, trying to down as many bevies as humanly
possible at the open bar on the High Roller, followed by thinking we could all share a 100oz Porch
Pounder on the PBR Bar patio afterwards. (Big mistake. We learned the hard way that there is such a thing
as too much alcohol for one day). We also created a vlog while on this trip, so it’s always fun to
look back and remember how much fun we all had together.

If you were coming home from a day out on your own and you wanted

to surprise your significant other with a treat/drink/gift what would it be?

His answer: A bouquet of flowers and a bottle of Alyssa’s favorite wine
Her answer: Bud Light Limes

Current Binge Watch on your TV?

We’re currently binging Ozark, but when we aren’t watching that,

we are probably watching Friends or the latest true crime series.

Now for fun a little game like the shoe game at weddings.

Who is the better cook?
His answer: Alyssa
Her answer: Alyssa
Who is the better dancer?
His answer: Alyssa
Her answer: Alyssa
Who made the first move?
His answer: Alyssa
Her answer: Alyssa
Who said I love you first?
His answer: Alyssa
Her answer: Alyssa
Who is more likely to get a speeding ticket?
His answer: Alyssa
Her answer: Cody
Who is more of a goof?
His answer: Cody
Her answer: Alyssa
Who is first to get up in the morning?
His answer: Alyssa
Her answer: Alyssa

And what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day

His answer: I can’t wait to see Alyssa walk down the aisle to me and see the look on her face.
I am also looking forward to hearing the insightful words that will come from Alyssa’s
father at the reception. He is one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met in my life.
Her answer: Our first look before the ceremony. I am so excited for Cody to
see me in my dress and have a moment just the two of us to soak in our special day.

Lets Talk About Layering a Bra Under Your Bodysuit | Calgary Boudoir Photographer

Lets Talk About Layering a Bra Under Your Bodysuit

This is not something that alot of girls think about it but it is an excellent option.

There is actually quite a few different reasons for why some boudie babes layer

a bra under their bodysuit. Not everyone needs to or will want to but there is some

great reasons below for why adding a bra under your bodysuit might be the right fit for you.

Coverage

With boudoir, not all clients want to show nudity. If you fall in love with a sheer bodysuit but

are concerned about top nudity you can layer a bra under it for coverage. Also, some bodysuits

have a very deep cut in the front and the V cut is kinda lose or it goes too much over to the sides

so wearing a layer under the bodysuit will help with coverage.

All three of the examples below are very similar which is one of the main reasons my clients

will layer a bra under a bodysuit. These very deep V bodysuits are beautiful and are just

fine for alot of poses or for personal wearing at home (he he) but for some poses they are

just not quite right and they slide to the side.  Adding a bra gives coverage and also it looks

amazing underneath. You can see in all three images that the lace of the bodysuit has slidden

to the sides or center of the chest area. A bra under the bodysuit is a great solution to this

calgary boudoir photographer

calgary boudoir photographer

Shape

This can be for any size of chest really. Some girls prefer the shape that a bra will give under

a bodysuit. Especially one that does not have any built in support.

In this example below, Alicia wore a bra under her cotton bodysuit to add that extra shape. We pulled

the strap down for this pose but the shape and support is still there in the bra.

calgary boudoir photographer

This layered combo was a bit of all three bodysuit situations.  This bodysuit was a very wide V so it

did not provide much coverage and it actually kinda went to the side of the chest. So she added

a strappy black bra which added details, shape & coverage.

calgary boudoir photographer

In this example as well you can see how the bra has given extra shape as the bodysuit does

not have a built in cup or support.

This example below is another perfect example of shape and coverage. This bodysuit had very low coverage in the chest area.

The cut of the lace was a bit short so layered a bra under it worked great to give coverage and shape. As you can see the

lace is different but it really does not matter. It still works amazing. You can see in both photos that

the mismatched does not take away from the outfit.

calgary boudoir photographer

calgary boudoir photographer

Add color or details

If you are wanting to add some color you can layer a colored bra under a plain bodysuit to

show some color or you can add a strappy bra to add some details.  You don’t really have to worry

about the straps matching up. I would look for a bra that has great details to it if you are

laying it for color or details.

First example my client layered a pink bra under her bodysuit which added a nice pop

of color.

calgary boudoir photographer

In this photo my client layered a bra that had amazing strappy details on the back of it

which looked great for all the tushie poses. Her bodysuit was a halter top so all of the straps on

the back are the bra.

calgary boudoir photographer

The back of this outfit worked great as well with the colored bra layered under the black bodysuit

calgary boudoir photographer

Some things to keep in mind when layering.

– I wouldn’t recommend layered a bra under a bodysuit that also has a built in cup and a back strap.

This can make it quite uncomfortable to have to straps and two bra cups.

– If you are between sizes on the bodysuit and you are planning to layer over a bra

then size up in the bodysuit and then layer with a perfectly fitted bra.

That way you are not adding a layer under something that is already a bit snug.

– Bring your other item with you to the stores. So if you already have the bra or the

bodysuit purchased then bring it with you to try on. If you are wearing a cotton

bodysuit and you want to add shape then you can layer over a every day bra that does

not have alot of lace or details. If you are laying to add details or color then look at the

bras that have fun straps on the back or details on the front. Try your items on together to

see how things lie. It is alright if the straps do not line up. But I would make sure

you are comfortable.

And remember these are just tips and not requirements.

You do not need to add shape or details or coverage to your outfit.

Makin Waffles on a Saturday Morning | Calgary Lifestyle Photographer

Makin Waffles on a Saturday Morning

My own in home lifestyle session with hubs

by Riana Lisbeth

Lets be honest makin waffles on a Saturday morning is a pretty sweet way to start the

weekend!!  Even better when they are topped with all the sweet toppings and you get

to share them with your love!  Last year my friend Riana put up a casting call on instagram

that she was looking for a couple to do a lifestyle baking session! I immediately contacted

her and said that we would love to do this and make some waffles!!  Riana is a good friend

of mine and a crazy mega talented photographer so being photographed by her was a dream!

Paul and I were freshly home from an amazing trip so we were all tanned and still had a

vacation buzz on ha ha! Riana showed up with Starbucks in her hands for us (how sweet is that)

and we starting our day with her makin waffles!

I love in home lifestyle sessions and I wish couples wanted to do them more often. With the mountains

so close I find most couples request to go to the mountains for their engagement session but

in home lifestyle sessions are just so fun and special!

Riana made this so easy! We basically just made waffles and had fun and she would pop in with

little posing instructions to help us out.  Honestly she made is so natural that we kinda forgot

she was there.

And of course Sammy had to get involved in some. We call Sammy our Velcro dog as

he is always close to us. We actually had to lock him out of the kitchen for some as he

always wants to be involved. If we cuddle or dance he jumps us on us to be included.

He also loves whipped cream so he was trying to get some of that as well ha ha

I remember crying when I got these images back…I was like THIS IS US!! We always have

fun playful moments in the kitchen and these images were just so real to us!  I said that if or

when times are tough, these are the images I want to look back at and remember this is us and

who we are and this connection and love will always be worth the work that marriage is!

I really can not thank Riana enough for this day and these images!

I wouldn’t be a good photographer is I did not leave you with

some tips for your own in home lifestyle session!

Trust your photographer first and foremost.

Shoot at the time of day when they think it is best for light. Riana asked us when our kitchen got

the most light. Trust them with posing. Some posing instructions can sounds kinda weird when

us photographers say them but if you just trust then it will be amazing.

Prep your home for the session

Remove any clutter from the shelves and unplug appliances so cords aren’t running across.

Toss a cute blanket or throw pillow on the couch. Move remote controls etc.

Dress to fit the style

In home lifestyle sessions should feel cozy.  Dress comfortable and wear shirts that are

lighter colors or neutrals. Avoid pinks, oranges or reds as your shirt as these colors cast

onto the others face.

Have fun and be you!

Love like no one is watching. Be playful and romantic and just be in the moment!

Photographers love PDA

Plan an activity

If it is your photographers style, then plan something to do during the session even if it is

as small as enjoying a glass of wine together or a coffee. Or you can make waffles or pancakes

or bake a cake, play the guitar or do a puzzle etc etc. Kinda think of the session as a fun

in home date!

I Don’t Love Props for Boudoir but I LOVE These Ones | Calgary Boudoir

I Don’t Love Props for Boudoir but I LOVE These Ones

The title kinda says it all ha ha! My style does not really fit props well. And I will let girls know

if they mention it before they book or even after they book.  I am very honest with my clients and

if something is not a right fit for my style I will let them know. For two reasons, one is that some

girls just can not envision things so they have an idea that just will not execute right. The other is

that my girls are spending alot of money on a session so if they want to bring a prop that just

doesn’t match my style then I want to give them the chance to maybe find a boudoir photographer

that is a better fit for them. Some examples that were not really a good fit when asked was a gun…

I have nothing against guns but not for my style and not in my space. And some other ones were vintage

mirror or a vintage lace parasol. Both beautiful items but they just do not fit my more modern, sexy

style.  And one last thing, I want my sessions to be about my babes and not all about props. I find

some props take away from the session rather then adding to it.

My two favorite props are Hats & Sports Balls!

Both incorporate into my style amazing! We usually only use them for a few shots and those

few shots are always amazing!  Most girls who bring a ball as a prop are doing it as it it their

spouses favorite sport or their spouse is a coach.

I have had a few girls bring hats for style choice and the other girls brought their husbands

cowboy hat as a sexy accessory.

Outfit Tips For That Perfect Sexy Sweater Outfit

Outfit Tips For That Perfect Sexy Sweater Outfit

I am a big giant fan of a more casual sexy look for one of your outfits!

But it is not as simple as grabbing any old sweater from your closet!

If you want to make the most of your boudoir session then I recommend some

simple easy to follow tips for picking out the best fit  and style for your sweater

These are all just recommendations, not requirements!

How To Pick The Perfect Sweater.

– make sure it can be pulled over the shoulder and does not have a tight neckline

– the ideal length hits mid hip and it slim to the body. It can be looser or tighter

but it looks best when there is not too much extra fabric. A looser fit sweater looks

great if it can still be pulled over the shoulder, is thin material and hits mid hip. If it is

too thick or too long then it is hard to work with to create shape.

– jewel tones, pastel tones or neutrals are best for my studio

– pair with a different color of undies to add interest. Undies with some cute

straps or lacey details look amazing. Or go bottomless which looks super sexy

– Sweaters with the knot detail in the back are super cute and look amazing

for booty shots

– I would try to avoid anything that has strappy detail across the neck. Straps across

the back are fine

– Accessorize your sweater with cute knee high or thigh high socks or lacey thigh highs.

Showing You All The Examples

I have probably had over a hundred boudie babes bring sweaters to their sessions over

the years!  I went back as far as 2016 to grab some examples of perfectly picked and styled

sweater outfits!

Example 1 -Miss B

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

Semi loose fit, can be pulled over the shoulder, the amazing color.

Styled perfectly with lacey undies and thigh high socks.

And that little twist detail in the back is amazing

calgary boudoir photographer

Example 2 – Miss K

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit

The cut was perfectly slim to the body, not too loose not to big.

Can be pulled over the shoulder, the color was perfect and she paired

it with black lacey undies. Also the thin material and the details on the

neckline were also amazing.

calgary boudoir photographer

Example 3 – Miss K

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit

The twist back style paired with lacey mismatched undies was a perfect combo.

The fit and the ability to pull over the shoulder (although not pictured) were

also amazing!

calgary boudoir photographer

Example 4 – Miss M

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

The color of this sweater was perfect for my space even when on the green chair.

Being able to pull over the shoulder and fitting her just perfect was a win win.

The styling with lacey undies and cute socks was perfect!

calgary boudoir photographer

Example 5 – Miss S

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

When she pulled out the classic thigh highs to wear with her sweater I was a little confused

as no one had done this before! But I was in love with her styling. Her sweater was perfectly

slim to the body, pulled over the shoulder and fit right mid hip! All wins

calgary boudoir photographer

Example 6 – Miss A

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

Going bottomless was an amazing styling choice by this client. Makes it

super sexy and suggestive. The large strips did not distract from the photo cause

of the size and the colors. The thin material, loose fit and big neckline were all wins

calgary boudoir photographer

Example 7 – Miss K

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

The color!!! Obsessed with this color in my space! And besides the color

she nailed the fit of it with it being slim to the body with a wide neck and I loved

the cut detail on the side of the sweater

calgary boudoir photographers

Example 8 – Miss A

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

This is one of my all time favorite sweaters. I loved how it was sheer and this

gold color was amazing in my space and on her tan. This sweater was a bit bigger

in fit but because it was sheet that did not matter. It was perfectly loose around

the neck to be pulled over the shoulder and she paired with cute undies.

Example 9 – Miss S

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

The color of the sweater with the mismatched undies and thigh high socks

made this sexy sweater outfit a major win. The thin material of this sweater allowed

it to flow nicely and we could pull at it to create shape and show off her core.

And to say it again, these colorful red undies were perfect with this neutral sweater.

calgary boudoir photographer

Example 10 – Miss A

What she nailed about this sexy sweater outfit….

This neutral toned sweater with all black accessories was a huge win.

The super high rise socks paired with lacey undies really made this outfit!

And of course she nailed the fit of it with it being slim to the body and having

a wide enough neck to pull over the shoulder.

When Boudie Babes Wore Jeans and I Loved It

When Boudie Babes Wore Jeans and I Loved It

Jeans is not the first thing you think of when you think of boudoir outfits but they can

look amazing!  I actually wore jeans for my own personal boudoir shoot in 2017. I posted

one of my images and it inspired a few of my clients to bring jeans for their sessions as well.

One of my goals as a boudoir photographer is to show booked clients and potential clients

that boudoir is no longer just lingerie. There is so many different options that are still

perfect for boudoir and are not lace or satin!

Tips for wearing jeans to your boudoir session

1) Chose jeans with a rips or distressing as it adds interest

2) Wear a slim fit jean so we can do those booty shots still

3) Plan to wear them open. You can wear undies under or go nude under

4) Accessorize for you. Pair with a cute bra or nude on top or wear with a tank.

In the examples below you can see how these babes all styled their jeans their own way..

nude on top or nude with a hat, paired with calvins or layered over a bodysuit, styled

with a beautiful button down shirt or a lacey bralette! So many options!

I also did a blog post all about My Calvins and why they are amazing for boudoir

you can see it here – > Calvins for Boudoir
