Cody & Irina’s Cornerstone Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

How did I get so lucky to not only photograph the most amazing couples but also in the most

beautiful places so close to home!  Documenting weddings in the mountains forever feels so

amazing and fresh to me and same with photographing at Cornerstone Weddings. This wedding

is my third of five there this year and I just love every single one of them.

When I look back on this day, I just feel so so so much joy and love and laughter! These two really

know how to laugh hard and love hard together! They are so adorable together which just makes

my job so so easy. And you can tell that their friends are just like them cause their wedding party

was so connected and so full of laughter.  It really makes my day fly by when I am laughing all

day with my couples! There is so many special parts about this day that I just love and if you keep

reading below you will hear about them from the couple.  I absolutely adore their first look and

how Cody reacted. He put his hand to his mouth and I noticed this is something he does when

he gets emotional as he did it during the vows as well. After tears and cuddles they immediately

were laughing together and dancing in the park! After their private first look we headed to their

ceremony where they shared their emotional and candid vows that really spoke to who they

are as a couple!  And when Cody dipped Irina for the first kiss it was just epic and she let out

the cutest little yelp of surprise! After we were finished shooting the family photos and wedding party,

I had some time just the two of them. And this little tiny bird just followed us around everywhere.

I have seen this happen on wedding days with a bunny or a deer and I mentioned to them how some

of my couples feel it is a loved one with them on their day.  They have a few words about this below where

they share about their day. And on that point, here are some words from the newlyweds.

How did you guys meet?
Cody – One night in July 2014, my friend Michael Hauer invited his high school friend Irina, who

had just moved back to Calgary from Halifax, to come have some drinks at Craft. I knew she was

going to be special by the way Hauer looked at me when he described her. He was giving me the “don’t

even think about it” look. My suspicions were confirmed. She was as fun and personable as she was beautiful.

I proceeded to tease her about her bright orange battery charger (Irina’s phone is nearly

always on low battery). The playground technique must have worked, as I managed

to get her number. I laid in bed texting her that night with butterflies in my stomach.

I knew it wouldn’t be the last time I saw her.

Due to my prior reputation, Irina wouldn’t quite give me a chance. Around 8 months later,

Hauer (and our love for his delicious guacamole) brought us together again. Hauer had invited

us both for drinks at his condo. I didn’t give her as much attention this time around.

As many of you know, Irina is quite charming. By the end of the night we were two-stepping in his kitchen.

It took three months of traveling back and forth from Cold Lake, countless brunch dates, and plenty of

Cody Anderson character references (thank you to all of the supporters),

for Irina and I to become an official item.

Please share the proposal story with us?
Irina – Last year, Cody and I were going on vacation around the Maritimes! Because

I went to Uni in Halifax, I took on the planning for this trip to show him around my old stomping grounds.

In Halifax, we’d met up with my bestie (and bridesmaid) Meaghan and her man, Kevin.

We drove to Cape Breton to explore the Cabot trail and watched Cody eat his way around the Maritimes,

one (more like three) lobster rolls at a time. In the town of Inverness, we’d already had the

best day walking, beaching, eating fresh mussels, and going to the Cabot Links golf course. (Cody’s real love story here.)

I’d booked us a room at the Dusky Diamond hotel (how amazing is that!?!?!), overlooking the ocean.

That evening we were going for dinner at the Clubhouse with Meg and Kevin. Cody was

taking forever to get out of the room (because he couldn’t grab the ring while I was

hovering around him, aw). Meg subtly came in and asked me to come out and take

photos by the ocean. Being a basic girl, it didn’t seem weird at all – had to do it for the ‘gram.

Leading up to this, I didn’t suspect anything or know that all three of them were in on the

proposal plan! So we finished up dinner and had decided to watch the sun set at the beach.

We pay, but Meg & Kevin aren’t ready, and suddenly there’s this huge sense of urgency to get. to. the. beach.

We literally leave Meg & Kev behind and Cody starts jogging (me in tow) to the boardwalk.

I look back while we’re running and Meg & Kev are also running several feet behind us. Shouldn’t we just wait?

Cody: “nope. Can’t”

As we near the boardwalk and beach, the sun is setting. It looks spectacular. Cody turns

to me with the biggest smile on his face, gets down on one knee, and asks me to marry him.

I was immediately overwhelmed and teary eyed and I think I said “no way!?” and then “I mean YES!”

Meg & Kev were purposely hanging behind so that they could have their phones ready to capture

the moment! Turns out Cody had told Meg before we arrived that he wanted to propose.

I am still so touched he planned this months in advance and had it captured in this

beautiful place, in a region he knew meant so much to me!

Most memorable moments from your wedding day?

Our favourite overall part was the ceremony. We loved seeing everyone there
and sharing our vows. Funny fact… Irina actually missed a page of her vows!!
Ha. But I don’t think you could tell. Read them to Cody later.
Especially loved when our awesome officiant told us to soak it all in and look out over the audience.
Having a moment to see the faces of all our friends and family looking back at
us was incredibly moving and one of the things I won’t forget.
Also can’t forget that impromptu dip for the kiss!
We also loved our first dance. It was so fun!! We love dancing and we’re so happy
picking something more upbeat. Irina loved being twirled around!!

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

After the first dance the guests did a special dance they did for irina: that was a Romanian
veil ceremony! It was super uncoreographed haha but we loved that it got every one on the
dance floor! The godmother of the bride (in this case my auntie and my moms twin!) removes the
veil to symbolize the bride “leaving her parents house” and becoming a woman. The bride denies the
head scarf two times, kind of like babushka style, and then allows the god mother to wrap her head!
This is her transition to now being able to lead her own household and family.
Meanwhile our guests all near witness and dance a Hora around us – which is
just a type of three-step dance in a circle.
The brides jewelry: All the women in my family wear these bangles! All of mine are
inherited: from my mom, my grandma, and my auntie/godmother. We never take them off and we
all have slightly different ones but the same style! The evil eye was a gift from one
of my bridesmaids Meaghan, ages ago. But it’s so Irina and I’ll never take it off!!!
The gold necklace on the bouquet is a gift from my dad on my wedding day. It’s traditional
to receive a gold medallion and this one had the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus.
My earrings were my “borrowed and blue” from my mom! They’re her pair of sapphire
earrings and she’s had them foreverrrrr. She told me she saved them just for this moment aww.
Cody’s paternal Grandpas dog tags: grandpa Anderson’s tags  from the Korean War.
His cuff links were his maternal Grandpas so it was nice he got to incorporate both!
Cody’s watch was a gift from Irinas dad! It’s a Patek Phillipe watch and we love that it’s mechanical!
Honestly the whole day was so magical. I am really struggling with just a few things!
One thing I also won’t ever forget is that tiny bird that kept intruding in our photos…. and when
you mentioned that it’s symbolic of a loved one it really moved me.
None of my grandparents were there and Cody lost two of his this year.
It was so meaningful and spiritual to reflect on.

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision

you made for your wedding? What made it so easy?

Choosing our minister, actually! We saw Joel live-in-action at our friend’s wedding and just knew

right away that HE WAS THE ONE (for us). He’s actually married a few of our friends so the

familiarity and his reputation made it an easy choice.

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day?

And advice to couples on this?

Suspenders vs. no suspenders?

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?

Try to get as much of the “big” stuff planned early on, soon after you’re engaged. We found

that venues, photographers, videographers all book up incredibly fast.

These are big decisions so spending a few weeks back-to-back really helps with planning everything else!

We also tried to do a little bit every month and asked for help when we needed it!

Break the tasks down and do them in time. We are sooo grateful to our

families and wedding party for helping with planning too.

Karl & Ashley’s Cornerstone Wedding

I don’t think this day could have been more perfect!  The sun was shining on the mountains and
these two have the most beautiful connection!  From the very moment I showed up things went so
smoothly which can’t always be said on wedding days ha ha.
Ashley had such sweet details for me to photograph the morning of their day including a custom
ring box and her invitation and save the date. I also loved that her girls were wearing super cute
custom shirts instead of robes. We did have to cut hers off so it didn’t ruin her hair but we cut it in
a way so she can wear it again ha ha.
These two said their I Do’s on top of the hill at Quarry Lake Park with mountains all around and their
closest friend sitting by for their unplugged ceremony. They also incorporated Karl’s German roots into
their day by incorporated the cutting of the log. It is an old German wedding custom, the tradition of
cutting a log represents the first obstacle that the couple must overcome in their marriage.
They must work together to “overcome the obstacle” by sawing through the log. This was such a unique
thing for me to photograph as I have never seen it at a wedding before…and I photograph alot of weddings ha ha.
We had alot of time after the ceremony for photos so after exploring Quarry Lake Park for photos these
two actually had about an hour of downtime before their reception. So while they took a breather I went
to Cornerstone and had the rare opportunity to photograph the venue completely empty and it looks
absolutely gorgeous. They had things set up so nicely.  This wedding is full of fun stuff like a smores bar,
a tequila cake and a dancing T-rex…yeah you read that right ha ha
Before we get to their wedding story, here are some words from the newlyweds.

How did you guys meet ?

We met in high school.  Karl used to pick on me in the hallways poking at me until we finally started hanging out

Please share the proposal story with us?
While we were evacuated during the Fort McMurray wildfire, Karl bought the ring.
About a month after we returned and found alternate living we wet for dinner one night
and took a walk around a nearby pond.  When we reached a gazebo there was rose petals, candles
, a banner with our names, and dozens of photos of our memories over the previous 8
years – and that is when he got down on one knee
Most memorable moment from the wedding day:
Bride: sitting at the head table of the reception and just being in the moment.
Looking around at all the guest enjoying themselves, and appreciating that they all
traveled to be here for US and celebrate this amazing day with us.
Groom: my most memorable moment was watching Ashley come down the aisle. She looked stunning.
Special aspects of the day that made it unique:
– our German wood cutting ceremony as a symbol of overcoming our first obstacle
as a married couple. And an obstacle it sure was.
– our “tequila shot cake” was a HUGE hit. Personally every time I’ve attended
weddings hardly anyone eats the cake after dinner, and a separate dessert followed by
dinner so we wanted to do something we hadn’t seen before and would be put to use –
so we went with 3 tiers of tequila good-ness.
What was the easiest decision you made for your wedding:
– I think our easiest decision was choosing cornerstone theatres as our wedding
venue. They were so incredibly helpful and easy to communicate with.
What was the most difficult time consuming choice that you made for your wedding
day and advice to couples on this.
– I would say the most difficult choice was choosing how the bar would work. We wanted
our guests to enjoy themselves without having to fork out $6-8 a drink. However we
also didn’t want to pay $3000+ on top of everything. Luckily cornerstone had many options for bar
service and we decided to do tickets. Each guest got the same amount of drink tickets which would cover
up to a $7 drink. So I would say if other couples are on the same fence we were about it, the
tickets are an excellent alternative. This way the guests get an “open bar” for so long and we
didn’t have to fork out an unpredictable amount of money.
Advice to couples planning their wedding day:
– just do your research on vendors and venues. Check reviews, use reputable vendors. All of our
vendors were AMAZING, I have nothing to say otherwise.

Calgary Wedding Photographer | Jordin & Stephanie’s Heritage Park Wedding

Calgary Wedding Photographer

Jordin & Stephanie’s Heritage Park Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

People always ask me if I ever turn down weddings and if I do what is the reason why.

The answer is yes and there is only ever one reason..FIT!  So that is either style fit in a way

that they are looking for a style that isn’t mine. I get the odd couple who doesn’t know that

photographers have their own style and they think they will change their style. Or it isn’t a fit

personality wise and that I know right away either way and with these two I knew right away

that they were a good fit both personality and style wise!  They are so sweet and down to earth

and totally smitten with each other. They came recommended to me by another photographer

friend of mine who actually has quite a different style then I do so I thought maybe these two

were looking for a different style but nope they said they loved my work and I was so flattered

and filled with joy about capturing their day! They started their day with a first look in Fish Creek

park and Jordin’s jaw dropped…like actually dropped when he saw Stephanie in her dress.

And then their little guy…omg…he is just too cute for words and he looked so dapper in his

bow tie and hat!

Here are a few words from Jordin & Stephanie

How did you guys meet?
Jordin and I met through Mutual Friends about 6 years ago and ended up together 2.5 years ago.

Please share the proposal story with us?
Jordin wanted to take me to Big Hill Springs for a walk and I said SURE! Let’s take the dogs for
a walk there. (which he wasn’t too excited about because he had this plan in mind) So we went
and at the top of the hill in the little forest he told me he had to use the washroom (to get the
ring) and gave me the dogs who were tangling me up (we have 2 chihuahuas) He came back and
asked me for a hug.. As he put his arms around me I saw something flashy in his hand and my
head turned to look but I was not quick enough. He was telling me how much he loved me and
then got down on one knee and asked. I said YES right away but immediately after I said
“WHEN DID YOU ASK MY MOM” and he did not hear the Yes part and said “are you going
to say yes” We both laughed and I cried of course.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Bride – The secret dance moves everyone had.
Groom – The Speeches and how helpful every single person who attended was.

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

We decided to do a sand ceremony to include our son Cohen on our special day.
The Bride also had her granddads ashes in a blue necklace and he walked her down the aisle with
her dad.
The Brides mother made her garters and all the bags for the bridesmaids and bride to carry their
essentials on the day. Super Special

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you made for your
wedding? What made it so easy?
The easiest decision we think was where we chose to have our wedding. It was a unique spot for
us as beforehand we were looking into golf courses and parks. We very much enjoyed Heritage
Park.

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day? And
advice to couples on this?

The down side to having our wedding at Heritage Park was since it was open season, we could
not have our ceremony until early evening and everything had to kind of fall right behind one
another and it could seem rushed. However, we did like the decision for this as we got to take
our photos beforehand and our guests did not have a gap in between the ceremony and reception
to figure out what to do.

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
First Things to book is your marriage commissioner, photographer and venue, those go fast!
Don’t stress the little things and on your big day go with the flow it will all work out.
Don’t let others change your mind, ex. If you wanted a certain centerpiece and someone told you
are you sure that will look good or that’s not you.. Go with what YOU want, I’ts your day.

Cameron & Chelsea’s Arts Common Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

Sometimes I just sit back and think about how cool this job really is.  Not everyone gets to have

their dream job, and just cause it is my dream job that does not mean it is easy. It is challenging and

so hard but so so rewarding and I love it more way more often then I dislike it. I love it the most when

I am at weddings surrounded by crazy amounts of love and laughter and connection.  These two are all

those three things. They just have this super cute connection and they love and laugh together like

crazy. They are so adorable together. Chelsea was an absolute vision in her Hayley Paige gown and

her bridesmaids were perfect in pink. Also…men in navy…whistle whistle! I love a nice fitting navy suit

on a groom. Cameron looks super stylish next to his gorgeous bride. These two got married right downtown

at Arts Common. I rarely shoot urban wedding photos so it was a nice change from the mountains to shoot

somewhere that was urban with glass and also a gorgeous sandstone building.  We wandered around downtown

for their two photos locations and it was too much fun.  Their reception was filled with laughs and a few tears

and some awesome dance moves! It was one of those weddings that I did not want to leave cause the

dance floor was packed.  I love the dancing part of the night.

Below are some words from the newlyweds and then their wedding story follows.

How did you guys meet ?

Cameron and I met at the University of Lethbridge. We were staying in the same residence and we met at one of

my house parties. We were friends for about 8 months before we started dating in March of 2012.

Please share the proposal story with us?

Cameron shared our engagement story on our wedding website and did a beautiful job 🙂 so here it is:

When I first decided to propose to Chelsea I had so many ideas on how to make it a romantic

occasion, unfortunately none of them worked out. It seems I really don’t have a “romantic bone” in

my body. I had thought about proposing to Chelsea when we first moved into our house

but was too nervous to get the realtor to help. Some coworkers had tried to convince me to propose on our trip to

New Orleans but I was too afraid to bring an expensive ring onto the plane.

I ended up going with a classic Christmas proposal and began making plans to pop the question on Christmas Eve.

I knew Chelsea had a few stipulations for the day, she wanted her nails done and to be in a nice background

and it absolutely HAD to be a surprise. Well it was a surprise!

I made plans with her mom to take her out to get her nails done a few days prior…Step 1 Check!

We ended up coming home from Chelsea’s mom’s house on Christmas Eve much later than expected and

I was running around getting the ring and doing random things like lighting candles and turning on the

Christmas tree for that “romantic feel”

I was finally ready and I dropped down on one knee and said “Chelsea!” meanwhile Chelsea

was cheering on our new puppy Zoey for pooping in the designated location and not really paying much attention to me.

Finally she turned around to see me holding an empty box (the ring had fallen out) and sitting on

one knee waiting to propose. She took a few seconds to realize what was happening and that there was actually a ring!

In the end she did say “Yes!” And I think I had at least 2 out of 3 of the requests accomplished, even if

the dog pooping in the background wasn’t ideal …and I can’t wait to actually marry my bean and spend the rest of my life with her!

-Cameron

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Bride: There were so many!
1) Cameron wrote in his letter to “remember to take a moment to take it all in” and I both loved and
needed that. There were moments where I stopped throughout the day to just be humble
and think to myself “how lucky am I?”
2)That epic dip when Blair said “you may now kiss the bride” haha!
3) I also absolutely loved when we sent our bridal party back in the limo and it was just us two doing
photos and all the kisses Cameron kept sneaking in between shots 🙂
Groom: the moment that Chelsea walked into the wedding ceremony. I hadnt seen the dress or any of t
he details and was so in awe of how beautiful she is/was.
Tell me about the special aspect of your day that made it unique to you two?
We didn’t have too many unique to us aspects per se… we didn’t want a church
ceremony because neither of us are really religious and the ceremony and reception in the same
lace. We also chose to do our first dance as our introduction.
Instead of a sand ceremony, Cameron and I talked about doing a “bean ceremony” with coffee beans.
Our nicknames for each other is bean, and we also LOVE coffee, so we thought that would be fun.
However, we thought it was kind of an inside joke, so we decided not to do it at the ceremony. However, one of my gifts
to Cameron on our wedding day was a small bag of blonde roast coffee beans and a small
bag of dark roast coffee beans, so we could do the “bean ceremony” as husband and wife
Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you made
for your wedding? What made it so easy?
Cameron and I have a weird habit of going with the first thing we look at, such as
condo, house, and it was the exact same with the venue! Arts Commons was perfect for us and it
was the first venue we looked at.
What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day?
And advice to couples on this?
The emailing with vendors!! It was super time consuming and kind of tricky to keep track of sometimes.
Sharing your vision and dream of the day with that many people is a tricky work of art haha!
Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
Our advice would have to be to be true your style as a couple and ensure your day represents
both of you. It can be so easy to get swept up in Pinterest ideas and instagram wedding
envy is so real haha, but as long as you always keep it real and true to the who you are
as a couple the day will turn out perfect!
Oh! And let people help you!! I was trying so hard to not be a bridezilla or a demanding bride,
that I ended up doing a lot of planning and prepping myself. Your families and bridal party want to
help and would be happy to lend a hand in any way!

Yeahhhhhhh! It is wedding day for these two and I am packing up my gear doing a little

happy dance!  I can’t wait to go back to one of my favorite places to capture their stunning day.

These two have the sweetest connection and when I shot their engagement session we laughed

so much that we got some weird looks from other park walkers ha ha.

We adventured up embankments, over water, through weeds and more to chase

the light for this fall session!  I love when my couples are up for anything.

Here are some of my favorite images from this stunning fall engagement session!

Canmore Wedding Photographers | Kenneth & Shea’s Cornerstone Wedding

Canmore Wedding Photographers

Canmore Wedding Venues

Red Bloom Photography

Something I love about being a photographer is how the majority of my clients are connected.

Well, I do get the odd google booking that knows no one that I have photographed. But for the most part all

of my clients are somehow connected and I think that is so rad. I first met Shea in 2014 when I photographed

her friends wedding in the Dominican.  I was so happy when just a few short years later I heard from Shea saying she had

found the man of her dreams and that they were planning a gorgeous mountain wedding. After a quick little phone

chat with this couple they said they would love to have me tell their wedding story and I did my booking happy

dance and added them to my 2018 wedding lineup.  They got married at one of my absolute favorite venues

and their day was filled with laughs and tears and gorgeous details. I am not going to lie, some

of those tears were definately shed by me, especially when she did a first look with her dad.

I think you can tell alot about couples but the people who they surround themselves with and their

connections with their family and I can tell you Kenneth and Shea are good people. You could tell

every member of their wedding party was extremely happy for them and to be a part of their day and

their relationships with their parents and siblings are so special and there is just so much love.

I really can not say enough good things about this day.  Now before I start crying again thinking back

to their day here are some words from the newlyweds.

How did you guys meet ?

We meet here in Fort McMurray, not knowing who each other were for so long to all of a sudden seeing

each other everywhere we went. Finally I messaged him to say “so I feel like I have been seeing you all over town

and we have never officially met” from there he picked me up one night to go for a coffee (at like 9PM ...lol) which

turned into us driving around town for probably 3 hours. Coffee dates then turned into dinner dates,

which turned into me introducing him to my family, which turned out to being the best decision I have ever made.

Cause I am now married to my best friend and soul mate.

Please share the proposal story with us?

Kenneth took me by complete surprise. August of 2017 my family was having a family reunion we had

family come up who I hadn’t seen in years. We were at my aunts place having a BBQ, and my sister in law

was taking pictures. She was VERY persistent on getting a picture of Kenneth and I in this exact

place at this exact time. As we were getting ready to take the picture my Aunt goes “what’s going on, something

is going on here” and next thing I knew there was Kenneth on one knee in front of my ENTIRE family

asking me to continue making him the happiest man, and asking me to be his wife. It is a moment I will remember for the

rest of my life, the moment that changed my life forever, and it was a moment I got to share with my family.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride: My favourite moment is actually shared between Kenneth and my father.  I shared

the first look with my father before he walked me down the isle. It was a moment of emotion I will never forget.

When it was time for my dad to walk me down the isle , and they opened the doors and

there stood all my friends and family my eyes were locked in Kenneth. Seeing the emotion

on his face is the way every girl wants to see. I was about to marry my best friend.

Groom:
The moment she walked down the isle of course,  she looked like the woman I’ve been waiting

and searching for for years, There couldn’t have been a more perfect moment.

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?
My “Something Borrowed” was from my brother. It was a pin that had a picture of my Nanny, Grandmother, and

my best friend Jeremy. Who each are no longer with us, and are three very important people to me who I wish were

there to share this day with me.

My “Something Old” was the wedding bands of my Nanny and my Grandmother which I pinned to

the inside of my dress that when I looked down, there I saw their rings.

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you made

for your wedding? What made it so easy?

Our compatibility, and how much we liked the same things, we chose one venue and one venue only.

And that’s the venue we got married in.

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?

Do your budget first, it will help you decide who is the best fit for you, but if something is

REALLY important to you and the vendor you want is just a little out of your budget, make it work this a once i

n a life time event, be happy with it don’t compromise or settle on anything. And most importantly when it

comes to the day or the wedding, don’t let the little things bother you, just because they placed something on the

table wrong no one is going to notice but you. Enjoy your day, you just married the love of your life go have fun,

dance, laugh, cry and go be the happily married couple.

It’s wedding day for these two and I am so excited!  And cause it is wedding day I am all packed up and

ready to go and don’t have time to write a post. This seems to be a common thing for me. Man keeping up

with the blog is hard work. Basically I priortize delivering images first and keeping on top of my emails

before any blogging so it kinda falls far behind. I can not wait to spend today with these two and their
