And Colin & Nicole are the perfect match for me and my shooting style. The first time I met them as
a couple we talked for over an hour. I have known Nicole for years as we used to work together,
but I didn’t know them as a couple until their consult. They have this spark that is
completely perfect and they laugh together and made me laugh and if we are laughing
at your consult then I know we are a good match! I was pumped when they chose me
for their June wedding and I already know that Nicole is going to look absolutely perfect
with this stellar eyes and her amazing short hairstyle…okay okay, it isn’t all about her,
Colin will look pretty dapper in his suit too! Colin & Nicole took an evening to answer a few
questions about themselves and their upcoming wedding. Do not scroll over their answers cause their
super cute proposal story is below.
What is your guys idea of a perfect day together?
Making an escape to the mountains! We’re quite involved with our community, sports, friends and family
so it’s really great when we can actually find a day to ourselves to explore a new trail in the mountains.
We have our rituals of picking a trail, packing our gear, and grabbing a coffee and breakfast on our way out of the city
and, obviously, celebratory beer after we’ve made it back to the trailhead. There’s nothing like taking on
a new challenge together each time we go to the mountains. We never know exactly what the weather is going
to be like, the conditions of the path, how we are going to be physically and mentally, who (or what) we are
going to meet, or if our gear will last.
True story, Colin owned his last pair of hiking boots for over 15 years. We tried Pocaterra Ridge where
the trailhead and path isn’t marked. As we were getting to the top of the ridge, one of his boots blew the sole!
It literally was hanging from the toe. We Macgyver’d the situation by making a strap out of his extra long laces and
my Swiss Army knife. We made it back to the bottom where we got lost and had to trudge through the river, all the while,
Colin’s sole was torn off. By the time we found our way back to the parking lot, the sole of his other boot tore off.
The beers were VERY tasty after that hike.
Another little story. Colin and I always start the spring hiking season with Ha Ling. As we were getting to the
ridge last June, the weather started to turn. It was windy, the snow was starting to fall, there were tons of people
out. I was uncomfortable and needed to get to a calm spot. I knew I couldn’t summit that day and suggested going to
the other side of the ridge. Full disclosure, I’m afraid of heights and this suggestion really threw Colin.
As we got to the other side, it was complete calm! It was warm, no snow, no people. Just us. I started
a speech about how we do the same hike every year, but it is always so different from each time that we do it.
This last time especially because Colin started to talk over me. I was confused why he was being “so rude”
until I saw him reach down to the front pocket of his backpack where he pulled a box from. I had been saying
his speech without knowing it. He asked me to marry him, right then and there. Our next challenge, get down the
mountain ASAP so I could wear the ring!
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding day?
Nicole: I’m looking forward to seeing Colin cry when he sees me for the first time.
Colin: Seeing Nicole in her dress!
What’s one part or decision about wedding planning that Is easier then you thought and one part that Is harder then you thought?
Easiest: Getting the major items out of the way. We had a great suggestion for a DJ. We lucked out
and were able to get them booked right away.
Hardest: The small details. I was working on a “save the date” and totally overthought it.
I totally understand why some brides stress out and may become “bridezillas”! The best advice I’ve
had from married friends is, “Make decisions”. This has definitely made those little details less of a concern.
What’s your favorite beverage or food to bring home and surprise your each other with?
So this is a bit of a toughy…We’re big foodies whether it is out trying a new restaurant or cooking. We’re always trying out new recipes.
Nicole: Colin LOVES Glenmorgan Bakery cheese buns! Forget birthday cake or other treats, that his
favourite! He’ll take these tasty cheese buns any day! As for favourite drink, a new local beer is
always good with a scotch for a nightcap.
Colin: Nicole doesn’t like to draw a lot of attention to herself, even when she deserves it. There’s been a
couple of times I’ve surprised her with champagne to celebrate, including sneaking a bottle up a mountain
for our engagement. Bringing home some bubbly always makes her smile and feel as special as she should.
I just love getting these answers from my couples! Makes me that much more excited for their wedding day!
