Justin & Nicole’s Lake House Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

From the moment I met these two I knew they were the perfect fit for me!  These two high

school sweethearts were cuddly at the consultation and I always think that is a good sign to be a

good fit for my romantic posing. Nicole has this sweet, bubbly energy that is to contagious and Justin

just adores her.  Their loving energy was so present on their wedding day with every single person

who surrounded them in their wedding party and their guests. It was one of those days that I just

did not want to leave. So much love and laughter.

We started their day at the Hyatt Regency Calgary. They had amazing suites booked that had

great light and beautiful decor for prep. From there we went to the first location for photos of the wedding

party but separately. These two wanted to save their first look for the aisle so to break up photos we did

the groom, groomsmen and some of his family photos pre-ceremony and did the same with the brides side.

This is a nice way to break up photos when the time between the ceremony and reception is tight.

After the ceremony we finished up photos at Fish Creek Park!  Their reception was beautifully styled by

Picture Perfect Weddings & Events and amazing florals by Flowers by Janie!

Alright enough from me. Here are some words from J & N.

How did you guys meet ?
We met at Simon Fraser Junior High School in grade 9. We were best friends for quite a
while, then drifted apart but once we reconnected the rest was history.

Please share the proposal story with us?
Right in the middle of busy schedules and lifes chaos we had planned a date day
for our first weekend off together in 19 days. We went for a romantic brunch at the
Lougheed House when Justin suggested we go for a winter walk before going
home. He took me to the spot where we had our first date and when I turned
around, he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand. After instant tears and
the most loving words we were both down in the snow and I screamed YES! Just
like that we were engaged. He had been carrying the ring around with him for
over a month!

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Bride:
The first time I held hands with Justin after my Dad walked me down the aisle. He
grabbed my hands and mouthed the word “wow” to me. It was magical.
Groom:
The first-time seeing Nicole as she walked down the aisle, and the first-time hearing Mr
and Mrs. Sullivan.

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

– Something Old: My great grandma’s handkerchief she used at her wedding
– Having my Step-Dad and my Dad not only walk me down the aisle but being able
to do a letter opening with my Dad and a first look with my Step-Dad
– Having my aunt officiate our ceremony – it made it so personal
– The boys custom designing and individualizing their suits
– Nicole allowing me to put some of the wedding cake on her face, face cake is a
big deal for Sullivans’ at big occasions

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision
you made for your wedding? What made it so easy?
Our venue, The Lake House. It took us a while to find the perfect venue (it was the last
one we looked at), however, from the second we walked up those stairs the feeling was
there. It was the place we would start our forever. It was easy because it was the perfect

collaboration and embodiment of us. A little bit rustic but fancy and chic at the
same time.

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your
wedding day? And advice to couples on this?
I think the most time-consuming aspect to a wedding are all of the little things. There is
an overwhelming amount of small decisions about décor, invites, etc. that take up a lot
of time. The best advice we could give is to start as early as possible.

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
Take your time with your engagement so you don’t feel like your options are limited and
don’t feel pressured to book with the first vendors you talk to. Hire a planner (at least for
the month/day of coordination). Enjoy the process. We made date nights out of it and for
the most part it was incredibly fun! Go with your gut – you will know if something is right
or not.
