Kyle &Morgan’s Calgary Zoo Wedding
Red Bloom Photography
I am just such a sucker for fall weddings and the peaks of yellows and oranges at this
wedding were tugging at my fall heart strings. I was lucky enough to connect to Kyle and Morgan
through some previous clients! I actually knew three of Morgan’s bridesmaids. It always
makes it alot easier to remember names when going into the wedding you know several of them
already. Kyle & Morgan decided to do a first look on their wedding day. For those of you
who do not know what this is, this is when the couple sees each other before the ceremony.
I always find that my grooms have a much better reaction to seeing their bride at
a first look verses at the actual wedding. The second great thing about a first look besides
the awesome reactions is I find it is a better flow to the wedding day. When you do a first look
and do your photos before the ceremony then after the ceremony you have a shorter gap
and therefore your guests aren’t having to kill 3-4 hours more like 1 hour. So that is nothing.
I was spoiled cause not only did I get to do a first look and all the photos before hand but
I also got to steal them away at sunset for 15 more minutes of photos. Here are some words
from Kyle & Morgan.
HOW DID YOU GUYS MEET?
Kyle was taking his firefighter course, and I was taking my Emergency Medical Responder course.
The school we attended was small- 2 classrooms and a communal lunch room. When I got
out of class for lunch, there was only one table that had an open seat… and it was at Kyle’s table.
We started chatting and found out what a small world it was. Being from out of town, Kyle
needed a place to live for the few months he was in class. My stepmom is one of the go-to billets the school uses,
and it turned out that Kyle was living at her house. My entire family had met Kyle before I did!

After four years of dating, we decided to head to Vancouver Island for a kayaking trip.
The trip was basically one where we were based out of a camp that was located on an island in
middle of no where along the Johnston Strait! The weather wasn’t great the first couple of
days (didn’t dampen any spirits though!), but on the third day the clouds cleared and the sun came out!
That night we were lucky enough to go for a night paddle. The water by our base camp
is home to bioluminescence, so every time our paddles hit the water, it would light up like stars.
There were no clouds in the sky, the moon was full and bright, and we kayaked under
millions of stars. At one point I made mention that this was a once in a lifetime moment.
Kyle paddled up next to my kayak and pulled out a picture of a hockey jersey (we are huge hockey buffs).
The jersey had his last name on the back and my jersey number from when I was a kid. Turned out he
had made me an Oiler’s jersey with his last name and my number so he could ask me to “be on his team”.
He pulled out the ring that was safely secured on a rope around his neck. After a few moments of giggling
and being speechless I started paddling again, which I heard Kyle from behind me say “that was a yes right?!”. Yes!
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY
As Kyle is a firefighter and I am a dispatcher, we had a few firefighter related accents-
we had a firefighter cake topper, and a mini axe to cut the cake. We are also a fun loving
couple, so we wanted to keep it interesting. We incorporated a bean bag toss instead of glass clinking!
ADVICE TO COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING DAY
Stay organized. Get a check list going (there are some awesome wedding planning books and websites!) and
write things down. Shop around. As much as you can, DIY or ask for help! And if you want some
personalized items, we used a site called Etsy to purchased some decorations/gifts etc. to make it very much “our” day!
And now her is Kyle & Morgan’s Wedding Story….
Miss Joanna Black Makeup doing her thing! So all week, Morgan’s bridesmaids were posting Meme’s on her facebook wall so I had to snap a photo of the one Erin her MOH posted that day! Awesome groomsmen gifts and of course there is always time for a drink before the weddingKyle & Morgan did a first look and it was amazing!! I love these photosKyle & his handsome groomsmen! Love when the groom wears a different color These beauties were a breeze to work with! You would never guess that one of them got ready in the parking lot cause she had an exam the morning of the wedding! Avenida Flowers did an amazing job on these bouquetsOh fall, I miss you already! These two are just the easiest to work with! Loved all their laughs during their ceremony. Jerry Stilson is one of my favorite wedding commissioners. He makes the whole ceremony so unique and personal. Get ready for this awesome first kiss! Best photobomb ever!!! The perks of shooting at the zooAnd after we snuck way away into this private area and it was just us and golden yummy sunset light…..so amazing! Gawwwww….I LOVE speeches! Best part of my day is listening to the hilarious things people say.
