Kody & Megan’s Riverview Bed & Breakfast
and Edgemont Community Centre Wedding
Red Bloom Photography
It is that time of the year where I am working like crazy to get all my couples their wedding photos.
So I am going to keep this blog nice and short and sweet so I can get back to work! September was
my busiest month for weddings, every other summer month I took a weekend off but I just
love September weddings so I booked lots for that month. Kody & Megan got married at the
Riverview Bed and Breakfast and it is one of my favorite ceremony sites. Not only is there
a stunning view over the river but the tree lined drive way into the property is stunning.
We ran into a few issues with the weddings guests for the wedding after theirs arriving over
an hour early…no joke over an hour early which just seems crazy to me. This was disrupting our photo time cause
we were using the driveway to shoot but with some polite asking the staff blocked the driveway for
20-30 minutes to let us finish photos. Which wasn’t a big deal at all cause those guests were still 30-45 minutes
early even with the delay. And it was so worth asking them to do this as the driveway is stunning. Now to talk about
the best part of this wedding….FOOD TRUCK DINNER!!! Ohhhhhh my so amazing! People need to do
this more often it was the best. Not only was the food super tasty but it was such a laid back
reception. Everyone was outside chatting in the sun and ordering food. I just loved it.
Alright here are some words from the Bride & Groom
HOW DID YOU GUYS MEET?
I’m his Insurance Broker .
A client/friend referred Kody to me when he was looking for motorcycle insurance. When he
first called me he was super witty and funny, I was excited to meet him. Then when we met in person he was a total
dud, haha! He barely even talked so it was super awkward to say the least !
A few months later he contacted me again for a pink card and wanted a chance to redeem himself.
I was hesitant after the first meeting. His first attempt was showing up at my office at 7am just
to bring me coffee. There were a few more coffee gestures before he got me to agree to see him outside of my office.
I agreed to lunch, and my rationale was, its 45 mins; I can sit threw 45 mins with anyone.
That lunch turned into 3.5 hours and the rest is history
TELL US HOW KODY PROPOSED
We love going to Whitefish, Montana. Its small, peaceful, quiet and the people are so nice.
When we were driving down on this occasion, Kody was really quiet, not very talkative.
I figured something must be bothering him with work. We were delayed a little on the highway
but eventually we got there. Every time we had gone prior, there was never anyone at the lake. We walked
around and were sitting on this bench overlooking the water and there were people everywhere!
Pulling boats out of the water, a really old lady walking her dog and a really really loud duck that
would quack nearly every time Kody would start talking. Eventually the squawking duck chilled out and he
asked me to marry him. I was standing on a stone ledge and my first response was,
OMG, don’t let me fall! Followed quickly with YES!
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY
BRIDE – hearing Kody’s vows. How many brides get a poem written for them?!
GROOM – seeing Megan for the first time as she came down the aisle. I am a lucky man!
TELL US A COUPLE THINGS THAT MADE YOUR DAY UNIQUE TO YOU
When we were planning, the one thing we knew was super important was… The food.
Neither of us are huge fans of those events where you have to wait to eat. When I’m hungry I
have about a 20 minute window before I go crazy. If I can smell food, that window quickly decreases to
about 8 minutes. Kody however, has this gift and can suppress the hunger beast.
For that reason we wanted a real open, feel for all for our guests to eat whenever they wanted
with lots of great tasting food with a wide variety. We picked 3 food trucks for the event and had them
open and ready to serve guests before we even arrived. Advice to anyone hiring food trucks, contact them directly!
** Dessert was a variety of mini pies. We had blueberry, cherry and pecan. Our wedding ‘cake’ was a
full size chocolate cream pie and each guest had their own mini chocolate cream pie.
All pies were homemade by Cutie Pies
** We had a good amount of kids coming to the wedding. There is nothing worse than trying
to occupy any child at an event that isn’t centered around them. I had fabric bags made
for each kid and made each one an activity bag. I filled them all with coloring books,
crayons, puzzles, stamps, stickers, games and necklaces. We also had a coloring table set up and
tiny human sleeping room so parents could keep partying while the littles slept.
ADVICE TO COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING
Keep it about the two of you. Make it unique to what’s important to each of you and have fun with it… And lots of wine!
Hire hair and makeup! The ladies I hired for the big day were phenomenal! It really made the
day of a lot less stressful knowing we were in such good hands
And take time off on the days leading up to the wedding. I was foolish in thinking I wouldn’t need to.
It led to a lot of extra stress that could’ve been avoided with even one day.
Alright and now time to share K & M’s wedding story
Megan & the girls got ready in an Air B & B that Megan rented. It was perfect cause so much more room then a hotel room ! I LOVE that Megan & Kody wrapped each others presents in inside out Christmas wrapping paper ha haTypical boys, watching youtube to learn how to tie their ties & bowtiesLove toast time! When Megan saw her boys there were so sweet, walking on her dress and helping her put her shoes on . So adorable. One of my favorite ceremony sites. I have shot three weddings here and I never get sick of it. When you are trying to shoot family photos with toddler twins and they just want to wave bye to everyone ha haProbably my favorite moment of the day when the boys on their own copy catted the girls pose ha ha ha! We were all laughing so hardLoooooove this shot!!! Food trucks for the win!
This perogy poutine was sooooooo good! Not gonna lie….I ate two…maybe three, but I think two of these mini pies! They were so good!

Hair – I found Sam in a Facebook wedding group and I was thrilled. Although I nailed
down my make up artist pretty quick, I was having a hard time finding a freelance hairstylist that was going to travel without having a salon price. She was awesome. Every girl showed her a picture and voila!

Makeup – I can not say enough great things about Erin! There is no nice way to put it; I
am horrible with make up and hair. I never wear make up and even though I completely inept withit all,
Erin made me feel super comfortable with the whole idea of wearing it. She was prompt
and worked ahead of schedule on the big day. Everyone was done with plenty of time to spare, we all loved
our make up and she was so calming and easy to chat with while we were all getting ready.
I would recommend her to anyone!
Make-up by Erin Kilburn
Lashes, lashes, lashes!
I regularly get my lashes done and of course this was no exception. Sue was super flexible with scheduling
(a HUGE bonus in those final days leading up to the big day) and my lashes were perfect!

Florals – I’m not huge into flowers and wasn’t even convinced we would have bouquets,
I was tempted to go with balloons. Ultimately I found a simple bouquet picture that I liked.
I found Honor Floral on a Facebook wedding group, sent her a picture of the ones
I liked and her pricing was very reasonable. I left the big balloons to my flower girls!
Help with Setup – We did the vast majority of all set up the night prior but I hired a wedding
coordinator to come set up the pie display and light all the candles before the reception started. www.meant2be.ca
Rentals?
I purchased some items but the big rentals were the chair covers, table cloths and a couple odds and ends.
Gylia was super helpful and easy to deal with and her prices were less than HALF of what every other place was charging!

Pies! – Let’s be real here, who doesn’t love homemade pie? Any flavor! Every flavor!

Stationery – I found Janna via Google and after our first phone consultation she had

and everyone loved our invites, programs and place cards 🙂
