Tyler & Lauren’s Glenmore Sailing Club Wedding

I always love blogging weddings as it is like jumping into a little time machine and revisiting the day.

And there is so much to love about these two and this amazing day. These two are just so my

vibe…good vibes, laid back and so in love! Three things that I love. And their wedding party was so

chill and fun too!

One things that I adore about their day was how they really focused on friends and family and the celebration.

They were jumping around the reception talking to people and everyone was having fun and chatting

and enjoying the amazing food. Cocktail style weddings are a totally different vibe as everyone is up

and moving around vs just sitting at tables waiting for speeches to happen. These two kept it all

casual, fun and connected! Here is what they had to say about their day.

How did you guys meet ?

We met while going to school at the University of Calgary. We were both involved in athletics

(hockey and soccer) and had a few mutual friends that introduced us initially.

Please share the proposal story with us?
We had been talking about getting married for a few months, and had been ring shopping

together, so Lauren was “patiently” waiting for Tyler to pop the question.

Tyler proposed while out snowshoeing in Canmore in front of his whole family. He set up our GoPro to

take a family picture, and then got down on one knee. It was a great surprise for Lauren, and about half the family too!

Funny story – Lauren’s dad (Kevin) cannot keep a secret! Tyler took so long to propose that Lauren’s

dad somewhat spoiled the surprise… One evening when Lauren and Kevin went out for dinner, he blurted

out, “ LAUREN, Tyler’s got a ring… and it’s BEAUTIFUL!!”. We figure this is a good thing,

because Kevin absolutely loves Tyler.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

When our ceremony started things got pretty real. We both only remember each other being there,

and everyone else was a blur.

Bride – If I had to pick one moment, it would be saying our vows at the ceremony.

I am so happy we chose to write our own. I was so present in this moment and my heart felt SO full.
Groom – Everything. Just being with Lauren was very special to me. I was really

nervous before our first look, but once I saw Lauren I was much calmer and more excited

for the rest of the day.

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

Our whole day felt so special because OUR version and vision of what a wedding

is came together flawlessly.

We had a mutual friend officiate our wedding – it was his first time doing something like that,

and he did an amazing job. He made the ceremony very personal by speaking to

different aspects of our lives. We had our 6 nephews as “bubble boys” instead of flowers girls. They looked so

handsome and the bubble guns were a hit with our guests. Those boys are super important to us,

so it was a fun way to involve them in our day. We both loved the cocktail style set up of our reception.

We were able to talk to so many more people in a comfortable way, and it made the evening feel fun

and casual, but special at the same time. The group shot gun was quite a unique activity at the

wedding, we were so pumped that over half our guests participated! We don’t party as hard as we

used to, so this was a fun little throw back to those days.

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you

made for your wedding? What made it so easy?

Writing our vows was a pretty easy decision. We both agreed we wanted to

skip the “traditional vows” and make the ceremony personal.

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding

day? And advice to couples on this?

We struggled with the choice between eloping vs a traditional wedding. However, we are really

family oriented and loved the idea of celebrating with the people closest to us. It’s cliche, but our

best advice is to always remember this day is about you two – AKA do what YOU want.

Surround yourself with people who truly want to support you and your priorities for this

big day (shout out to our wedding parties). Create a day that is unique to you by picking and choosing

a couple “traditional” wedding elements and then figure out how to make it the most fun, and memorable day.

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
Planning a wedding together was like an exercise in couples therapy haha! It required lots of team

ork and communication. Honestly, just focus on enjoying the process together. The day itself goes by so

quickly, so enjoy each little stage as it comes – even if it seems like work at the time.
