Taylor & Rachel’s Cherry Creek Estate Wedding

As a wedding photographer there are certain wedding venues on my bucket list
of wedding venues and Cherry Creek Estate was at the very top of that list for localish
to me venues! So when Taylor and Rachel asked me to photographer their Cherry
Creek Estate Wedding I lost my mind with excitement. In saying this, I should mention it
and I really mean it that every single wedding I shoot is important to me and having an amazing
is just a cherry on top of the amazing sunday that is your wedding day! I first met these two when
they won one of my session giveaways. At the time they were just dating and we did their couples
in love session in Fish Creek Park. Just a few short months later Rachel emailed me with the news
that Taylor had proposed! We actually did their engagement photos in the winter in Kananaskis at these
two are total adventurers and the mountains is where they love to be. You can see some of their
engagement photos here -> Taylor & Rachel’s Upper Lakes Kananaskis Engagement Session
One thing I love about Cherry Creek Estate is that they had the entire property for the weekend
so it was so great to get to explore the property and bounce back and forth between Taylor & Rachel
as they prepared for the day. I really could go on and on about their day but I will let the images
tell their story and the captions between some of their images. Before we get to their
wedding story here are few words from the newlyweds!
How did you guys meet ?
We met at a bar haha. Super exciting right? I thought he was super cute and apparently stared at him a
bit too long because he came over and as soon as he introduced himself and smiled – I knew
I was in trouble. We shared a couple drinks, talked about hockey, our shared love for the
mountains, and the rest is history.
Please share the proposal story with us?
Taylor was home for the week from work and suggested super causally that we should do a hike
that we’ve both been wanting to do for forever, Prairie Mountain. We packed up ourselves & our dog, printed
off directions and headed out for our hike. When we got to the trailhead, there were a bunch of different
routes and we really weren’t sure which one was the Prairie Mountain trail, so we picked the one that
sounded the closest – Prairie Creek – hoping it would meet up with the correct trail. Haha nope. During the hike, we were
both a bit confused but enjoyed it nonetheless! When we got to this beautiful clearing on the side of the mountain,
there was nobody else there and I walked over to the edge to enjoy the view. As I turned around to call
Tay over, I found him on one knee in front of me holding out the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen.
I literally almost fell off the cliff haha. It was so perfect and I had no idea – plus it was super special that he proposed on
July 22 and 2:22pm and we got married exactly one year later on July 22.
Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Groom: Same as my wife – I gotta agree with her!
Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?
This is quite typical on a wedding day that a groomsmen ties multiple guys ties and then hands them off as not everyone knows how to tie a tie. Dad popped in to help Taylor with his suit jacket. If you follow me on instagram you might have seen that their used to be a bridemaid in this photo. She was holding the dress. I had total confidence in letting it go and hang
there but she did not share my confidence and held on so with ALOT of time I edited her out of this one image. I just love when the bride updates her facebook on the wedding day. Can you even believe that her Aunty made her dress! It was quite spectacular. Dad & Daughter first looks are so special. The moment before their first kiss is absolutely adorable! Having photos taken with the horses was very important to Rachel and I was happy to capture them. These florals are perfection!!! See that peak to the right of the image…that is actually the peak that we flew up to in the helicopter! so AmazingThis venue is something else!! Just wow! I am a farm girl so barn venues are my favorite. Straight after their first few formal dances the helicopter came and we were off to the mountains. They actually let me chose the time for this and of course I chose sunsetBe prepared for a whole lot of gorgeousness here! As a mountain lover and adventurer myself it was quite special to experience this. Also these two have the
biggest hearts and invited my husband to their wedding and onto the helicopter. So I got to experience my first helicopter ride with him. He actually took
some pretty awesome behind the scenes photos of me and even accidentally photobombed one epic image so I had to photoshop him out ha ha. What I absolutely love up here is that we worked with all different lighting styles and you will notice the slight change in edits.
- This last image is something extra special with those clouds and the sun casting on them. Hope this makes it to their wall.
