Patrick & Jessica’s Chester Lake Adventure Elopement
Red Bloom Photography
Hello, we are wondering if you are available to hike up to Chester Lake for our wedding? YES YES YES!
This wedding was all my favorite things in one…photographing a rad couple, the mountains and adventuring!
Their day was so special as their closest friends and family members gathered at the parking lot and then
we made our way up to the top together. Well for the most part, kinda in a couple small groups. The hike
was not easy with a bag full of gear but it was so gorgeous and worth the effort! And it is not everyday that
I get to photograph a wedding in casual clothes so that was also a win ha ha.
Once at the top, Patrick and Jessica found their own private corners to change and get ready for their
first look and wedding ceremony. They both hid behind little bluffs of trees and then afterwards I
sent them to a location to do their first look. I am a huge fan of first looks as they are so sweet and emotional.
I feel they are so much more relaxed then seeing each other for the first time at opposite ends of the
aisle. These two had their friend perform the ceremony for them which made it so personal.
After the ceremony we explored the area and found tones of spots to shoot. This place is a photographers
dream and even with the smoke hiding some mountains we still had amazing views and that
beautiful turquoise water that we all love!
Some words from the newlyweds…
How did you guys meet?
In high school, I got his crossword to solve in Social Studies. One of the clues didn’t make sense, so
I went to his desk to ask him about it [tell him he’d done it wrong]. Surprisingly, we didn’t immediately
become friends.
It wasn’t until university that we got to talking at a party held by a mutual friend, and soon
after he asked me out with a poem.
I happen to notice this pretty girl in my class in high school that my friends would hangout with
in art class. At the time she was off the market and we had only one exchange. We both had each
other’s crossword puzzle, and I managed to stump her with mine. She came over to my desk, said this crossword is
dumb (because she couldn’t finish it) and left.
The next time I would encounter my future wife would be at a house party. My friend asked me
to come over, and generally I would not have gone. But for some reason a force had pulled me towards going
and I did. My friend the whole time was telling me to talk to this girl, and low and behold
it was Jessica. We chatted the whole night, and at one point ended up on the top of a shed
roof looking at the stars together.
Following this we went on our “first date” depending who you ask. It involved teaching
Jessica to drive manual on my ’87 Honda Accord. Following a few stalls at a stop sign, we decided that
we would go get Peter’s Drive In to have a milk shake and overlook the city. I remember looking
into her eyes with the sun setting, talking about many interesting topics, and knowing that
this was really someone special to me.
The next time we would meet would be at a pub with our friends following a concert. She happened
to be driving everyone home and I insisted on being the last one dropped off. I asked her to stop by a field
in my neighborhood that I had frequented as a young adult with a nice view of the stars and field.
Here I planned to ask her via a poem I had written. I thought I could memorize it and recite it, but two
lines in I forgot what I had written. I proceeded to try and kiss her, with her response
being “What do you think you’re doing!?”. Then she asked me out, which was great.
Please share the proposal story with us?We went backpacking after undergrad, mostly through eastern Europe. Pat carried the
rings around the whole first part of the trip, then when we were hiking in Slovenia he got down
on one knee on the top of a mountain! There was poetry and tears – and we ended up getting lost on the way
back – but it was a great day.
Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Groom – getting to kiss Jessica after exchanging rings
Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?
