Banff Wedding Photographer | Cody & Paige’s Mt Norquay Wedding

Banff Wedding Photographer

Cody & Paige’s Mt Norquay Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

This is not the first time that one of my fall weddings was hikacked by snow and winter

like weather ha ha! It is no secret but I do love winter so I am not complaining at all

that we had a bit of snow in the photos. What was not as fun as some unseasonable snow

is the super windy cold temperatures that we had this day. But when you are getting married

in the very majestic Rocky Mountains you tough out the cold and you do all your photos

outside. Paige was a trooper for sure cause as I was all cozy in my jacket and sweater she

was out in the cold in just her gorgeous dress!  This day was just so beautifully planned my

Hera Weddings & Events and Cody and Paige put the focus of the day on the people they love.

They asked that we arrange the photography timeline to allow for them to be present during

their cocktail hour so they could mingle and we sure did.  The chose a first look so they could

finish up their photos before the ceremony and then afterwards I snuck them away for just

10 minutes to do photos in the very spot where they were meant to be married. Their

ceremony was moved indoors for weather but that location was important to them so we

braved the cold again. Mt Norquay is a stunning place to get married and I am lucky that this

was my second wedding there.  They have a very large space to accommodate a big wedding

and the food is delicious. It is also great when the ceremony and reception can be all at

one location as it is easier on the guests this way. I can go on and on about this day but

lets hear from Cody & Paige.

How did you guys meet?

We met at a high school grad party, but did not start dating until after a few years of
being friends.

Please share the proposal story with us?
Paige reluctantly agreed to go fly fishing with Cody (which she is NOT a fan of). He
took her to a private spot on the Elbow River past Bragg Creek. Once Paige was set
up with her magazine and lawn chair, Cody told her he didn’t actually bring her along
to go fishing, and he popped the question! Paige had another surprise when they
arrived back in Calgary that afternoon. Their house was full of their family, close
friends, champagne and food- everything necessary for an epic engagement party!

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride- The first look. Seeing him completely relaxed my wedding day jitters, and his
“love letter” to me is something I will remember forever.
Groom- The first look. There was so much excitement and build-up to it.

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it  special to you two?

Music was important to us, and we chose every song that played over the course of
our wedding ceremony because it was something special to us. We also created
detailed playlists for our dj from cocktail hour to late night in order to get people in
the right mood for the moment.
Seeing all of our friends come together was also very special. We are both from
small towns and now live in Calgary, so we have three distinct groups of friends from
different places. Everyone being together at once was incredible.

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you
made for your wedding? What made it so easy?
Our venue. Mount Norquay was such a gorgeous spot, and we loved that everything
was all together. The natural feel of the building fit with our vision for the day, the
food choices were wonderful, and the service from their events team was very
organized.
Anything regarding food or drink- we are experts in this area 😉

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding

day? And advice to couples on this?

Paige’s dress. My advice, don’t rush it! If you have a vision in your mind of what you
want to look like, don’t settle until you find the perfect fit!

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
Hire a wedding planner! Paige was very excited about planning a wedding and had
specific ideas of what the day should look and feel like. A planner helped up put it
together perfectly, kept us on budget, and took away so much of the stress and hard
work of planning a wedding.
Second piece of advice- be in the moment- from the engagement, to planning
process, rehearsal to the reception. Don’t think ahead about what is to come next
because every aspect is so special and so meaningful itself. Enjoy the process!

And now Cody & Paige’s Wedding Story

Calgary Wedding Photographers | Sam & Shaeleigh’s Alloy Restaurant Wedding

Calgary Wedding Photographers

Sam & Shaeleigh’s Alloy Restaurant Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

One thing that I remember so extra clearly about this day is that Sam & Shaeleigh’s day

was not about a wedding, it was about a celebration with their friends and family. Their day

was all about the people around them. I noticed this first thing in the morning from the way

that the interacted with their friends and put their wedding party first.  As I captured their day their friends

were always close and around them making sure things were good and asking how to help.

The second Shaeleigh slipped into her dress she burst into tears, it just hit her that she was

about to say I do. Her bridesmaids came in and immediately tried to make her laugh so she

did not cry away her makeup.  That is definitely what I would want my girls to do. She laughed

and cried a little more as they helped her with her jewelry and finishing touches.

Like alot of weddings, this wedding ran a little bit late which was probably for the best as it

was unseasonably cold so this cut our photo time in half. It was way to chilly for these girls

to spend 1.5 hours outside so we did all their photos in 45 minutes.  I did convince them to

give me another 10 minutes during the reception but let me tell you it was not easy to pull

them away from celebrating with their friends.

I could talk forever but lets hear from Sam & Shaeleigh!

How did you guys meet?
We met through Instagram!  We are both fitness competitors and Sam had seen a poster for

an upcoming show that I was on so he looked for me on Instagram, added me and sent

me a DM.  I think he said something lame like “hey do you like shoes?”.  I didn’t respond

for about a month but for some reason, something told me to respond!  We began talking regularly

but didn’t meet face to face until about 4 months later because he lived in Edmonton and I

live in Calgary.  He came to Calgary in January 2017 for a work training course and we met then.

We went to the gym (ha, of course) and went for sushi after.  Ever since that time he came

to Calgary, Sam drove every single weekend from Edmonton to Calgary to see me

until he made the move to Calgary in October 2017.

Please share the proposal story with us?

Sam planned a weekend in Banff at the Rimrock Resort Hotel. While I knew we were going to

Banff for the weekend, he kept the details of the weekend a secret.  The first surprise was when he took

me to the Helicopter tour.  When we landed on the top of a mountain, he got on one knee and proposed.

He was so nervous!  We took the helicopter back down and spent the rest of the day at the spa getting

couples massages and relaxing at Red Earth Spa.  After, we went for dinner at Eden in the Rimrock Hotel

and it was easily the best dinner we have ever experienced.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride – When I first saw Sam. Also, the minutes leading up to the first look when

I was getting into my dress.  That’s when it all became real.
Groom – Seeing Shaeleigh for the first time during the first look.

Also, getting ready with the boys was pretty fun too

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

My mom crocheted white roses to put in my bouquet and a blue heart to sew in my dress.

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision

you made for your wedding? What made it so easy?

The venue, Alloy.  It was where we had our first date and we both love the food there.

Also not to have a cake, we both don’t like cake.

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day?

And advice to couples on this?

Finding a DJ.  I would say really shop around and get quotes.

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?

Start planning early, set a budget, and don’t get too tied up with the small things.

Make a timeline for the day of the wedding and give a copy to everyone in the wedding party

so they all know where to be and when.

Also, if you’re doing a first look make sure to have the guys corsages and ladies bouquets

with you at the location you’re getting ready and not delivered to the venue like we had!  When

I had a friend bring them to our hotel in a rush for the first look and wedding party photos they

brought the corsages for my grandma and other family members to the groomsmens room too.

The family corsages were left in the groomsman’s hotel room because the guys didn’t know

what they were for and didn’t ask.  So my grandma and other family members didn’t get

their corsages unfortunately.

Also, on the day make sure to breathe and take it all in.  It goes by very fast!

Calgary Wedding Photographers | Michael & Deb’s Deane House Wedding

Calgary Wedding Photographers

Michael & Deb’s Deane House Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

I just knew things were going to be a good fit with these two from the very beginning.

I opened my emails and read Deb’s email to me about her search for the perfect photographer. She said

they had contacted several photographers and just hadn’t found the right fit yet. And then she found

me and my style. She explained how she loved that my editing was right in the middle between light and

dark (which is my goal) and how she valued my experience and then she asked if we could meet to

discuss more and I was like heck yes we can. I met Deb alone for coffee and it was like instantly meeting a friend

I knew forever. We instantly clicked and as she told me about her and Michael and their day I just knew I had to

be a part of it.  Their day was about them and their relationships with the people they love and that

really showed the day of when they surrounded themselves with 16 of their closest friends

in their wedding party. It showed at their intimate tent reception when you heard people

laughing and saw people hugging and interacting everywhere you looked.  It meant alot to me

that they requested to spend less time on photos so they could make it back to their cocktail hour

to spend time with their guests. This was just one of those wedding days where I left with sore cheeks

from laughing and smiling so much.  I was a little sad that I had to leave without a donut from

their Tim Hortons donut bar cause those Tim donuts went to fast ha ha.

This day was just full of joy and love and I could go on and on about their day but lets hear from them.

How did you guys meet ?

Michael and I met on a “blind” date ( as blind as blind dates can be these days – I saw a photo of him

before we met and was instantly googly eyed. I thought he looked like Prince William, haha!). Michael’s brother and his

girlfriend (one of my friends) arranged for us to meet!

Please share the proposal story with us?

Michael and I have been spending our anniversary at the Rimrock in Banff ever since we met,

and he took me up there for our most recent anniversary last year, as per the tradition. He made

a reservation for a really nice dinner at The Eden, and told me to bring a dress and that he was

bringing a suit. I usually have to beg him to wear a suit outside of work, so with that, plus the

restaurant choice, I probably should have been tipped off, but fortunately I wasn’t! I almost even found

the ring in his suitcase that morning as I was thinking of cleaning it out for him and bringing it to Banff –

luckily I decided not to clean the front pockets out and just use it anyway. When he got home from work that

day and saw the suitcase at the front door, he thought for sure I had found it! He then moved the ring

when I wasn’t around into another bag which I strongly insisted he did not bring as we now looked

like we were packing for a week! Luckily I let it go, haha. When we finally got to Banff, I was in the

bathroom getting ready for dinner, and he told me he would get dressed outside the bathroom in the

room so that he could watch his favourite hockey team play (The Montreal Canadiens). I walked out

of the bathroom when I was dressed and saw the ring box open on the bed! I turned around in disbelief

and he was on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was totally surprised and of course,

the Canadiens scored! It was so magical and private and low key, and then we got to

celebrate with an amazing dinner. It was exactly what I wanted, just me and him.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride: My most memorable moment was two fold : the first part was walking down the aisle to
see my husband, it was the first time I had cried all morning as everything felt so
busy! Beginning to step down that aisle, and seeing his face made everything seem just so happy
and right, and it was the calmest I had felt all day! The second part was  the way every time
Michael and I would walk back into the reception area, everyone would cheer so loudly  – not just
once, but every single time. It was that moment that I realized how much support, love and
excitement there was for us among our family and friends. Both of these moments just felt
so surreal, and are ones I will never forget!
Groom: Mine was also two fold! It was walking down the aisle myself first with my
parents, and then the moment where I stood at the front and got to see Deb for the first time.
Just seeing how many people showed up to support us was so emotional. Then, seeing how beautiful
my bride looked and watching her walk down that aisle to marry me just made me so happy.

It was the official “new” continuation of our relationship!

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

To be honest, the most important details to us were just having all of our friends and families
there. We tried really hard to just make it about enjoying each others time and celebrating casually,
so didn’t follow too many of the traditions like the bouquet toss, cutting of the cake or a garter toss.
We also had our bridal party’s significant others sit with us at the head table, as the whole
reception was set up around family style tables. We know that meant a lot to them and we think it
just made the night even more fun!! Another thing we did that was really important to us, was making
sure that after our first dance, we both danced with our own parents, but also our in laws.
Michael and his mom have a really important relationship, so we wanted him to have a dance
with her at the same time I had my father daughter dance. My mother raised me just as much as
my father did, and Michael’s dad is a now a second father in my life that I am so blessed to
have. It was really lovely. We loved veering away a bit from the some of the more common wedding

traditions – it made us feel like the day was uniquely ours!

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you made for
your wedding? What made it so easy?
Having a Tim Hortons donut bar! We looked at many different options for a dessert bar,
but in the end I couldn’t help but laugh when Michael suggested we just go simple and have
Tim Hortons! It was so him and I loved the idea. A very Canadian experience for

some of our out of country guests!

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your
wedding day? And advice to couples on this?
I could also answer this question twice! The first  choice would have to be choosing
reception venue! We knew we loved the Deane House, but really had a hard time justifying
fitting this into our budget. At the end of the day, we both compromised on certain aspects,
and had to get really creative to fit it into our budget, but it was so worth it. As I mentioned above,
it was where some of our most special memories of the day occured! I never could have
imagined that the food, the layout and beauty of the venue, and the team that worked
there would have played such a huge roll how amazing the day was for us- and I can
truly say that I look back at all of those aspects and more and just cannot stop smiling.
It truly was one of the best decisions we ever could have made!
The second choice would be choosing a photographer – we searched high and low and
did serious research. The market is full of photographers, and I was having a really hard
time finding the difference between many of them. When I found Monica however, I just
had a totally comforting feeling and felt she did such a great job separating herself
from the rest. I loved how her editing style (specifically related to lightness and
brightness versus a darker style) was actually right in the middle! It was natural looking
and professional and you could tell her work came from an experienced photographer.
Something about how timeless her style was just made me feel confident that in 20 years,
I would STILL love our photos! Her website was so professional and full of information, she
was quick to respond to our questions, and what really sold me was hearing how long she had
been photographing for. Hearing she had been doing this for over 7 years, and had “seen it all”, making
her prepared for both the best and the worst case scenarios (in terms of weather, wedding
day hiccups, etc.) gave us all the confidence we needed. So it was a long search for the
perfect photographer, but I am so grateful we chose Monica!
Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
I am sure everyone has heard this before, but you truly get one day to make it about
yourselves and your love, so just do whatever feels right and natural to you. It
can become so easy to feel torn and influenced to make the day about others, not wanting
to offend or hurt anyones feelings. However, you can still be kind and thoughtful to your
friends and family like organizing the day in a way that will give them ample time to rest and o
socialize how they choose, without sacrificing your own happiness! Just know that at the
end of the day, the people who love you will support whatever you choose, and if you stick to
what you truly want, you will not regret it!

Kananaskis Wedding Photographer | Patrick & Jessica’s Adventure Elopement

Kananaskis Wedding Photographer

Patrick & Jessica’s Chester Lake Adventure Elopement

Red Bloom Photography

Hello, we are wondering if you are available to hike up to Chester Lake for our wedding? YES YES YES!

This wedding was all my favorite things in one…photographing a rad couple, the mountains and adventuring!

Their day was so special as their closest friends and family members gathered at the parking lot and then

we made our way up to the top together. Well for the  most part, kinda in a couple small groups. The hike

was not easy with a bag full of gear but it was so gorgeous and worth the effort! And it is not everyday that

I get to photograph a wedding in casual clothes so that was also a win ha ha.

Once at the top, Patrick and Jessica found their own private corners to change and get ready for their

first look and wedding ceremony.  They both hid behind little bluffs of trees and then afterwards I

sent them to a location to do their first look.  I am a huge fan of first looks as they are so sweet and emotional.

I feel they are so much more relaxed then seeing each other for the first time at opposite ends of the

aisle.  These two had their friend perform the ceremony for them which made it so personal.

After the ceremony we explored the area and found tones of spots to shoot. This place is a photographers

dream and even with the smoke hiding some mountains we still had amazing views and that

beautiful turquoise water that we all love!

Some words from the newlyweds…

How did you guys meet?

Her Version

In high school, I got his crossword to solve in Social Studies. One of the clues didn’t make sense, so

I went to his desk to ask him about it [tell him he’d done it wrong]. Surprisingly, we didn’t immediately

become friends.

It wasn’t until university that we got to talking at a party held by a mutual friend, and soon

after he asked me out with a poem.

His Version

I happen to notice this pretty girl in my class in high school that my friends would hangout with

in art class. At the time she was off the market and we had only one exchange. We both had each

other’s crossword puzzle, and I managed to stump her with mine. She came over to my desk, said this crossword is

dumb (because she couldn’t finish it) and left.

The next time I would encounter my future wife would be at a house party. My friend asked me

to come over, and generally I would not have gone. But for some reason a force had pulled me towards going

and I did. My friend the whole time was telling me to talk to this girl, and low and behold

it was Jessica. We chatted the whole night, and at one point ended up on the top of a shed

roof looking at the stars together.

Following this we went on our “first date” depending who you ask. It involved teaching

Jessica to drive manual on my ’87 Honda Accord. Following a few stalls at a stop sign, we decided that

we would go get Peter’s Drive In to have a milk shake and overlook the city. I remember looking

into her eyes with the sun setting, talking about many interesting topics, and knowing that

this was really someone special to me.

The next time we would meet would be at a pub with our friends following a concert. She happened

to be driving everyone home and I insisted on being the last one dropped off. I asked her to stop by a field

in my neighborhood that I had frequented as a young adult with a nice view of the stars and field.

Here I planned to ask her via a poem I had written. I thought I could memorize it and recite it, but two

lines in I forgot what I had written. I proceeded to try and kiss her, with her response

being “What do you think you’re doing!?”. Then she asked me out, which was great.

Please share the proposal story with us?We went backpacking after undergrad, mostly through eastern Europe. Pat carried the

rings around the whole first part of the trip, then when we were hiking in Slovenia he got down

on one knee on the top of a mountain! There was poetry and tears – and we ended up getting lost on the way

back – but it was a great day.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride – that’s a tough one! It’s all still fresh in my mind. Probably hearing Pat’s vows.
Groom – getting to kiss Jessica after exchanging rings

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

The dress was second hand, and our wedding bands were also our engagement rings!
Getting the rings engraved was a great way to symbolize our vows and commitments to
reach other. We wanted to focus on celebrating our marriage, and knew we didn’t
need to follow all the traditions to do that.

How did you come to the decision to do an adventure elopement
and how did you pick the location?
We knew all along we wanted to get married in the mountains since that’s our favorite
place to be. We had been to this area a few times before and knew the combination of the gorgeous
lake and short approach were just what we were looking for.

What was the most difficult thing about planning an adventure elopement?
Logistically, deciding when to get legally married and when to do photos. We ended up having
them on separate days which meant our wedding party had to get dressed up twice, but it worked out nicely.
Advice to couples who are planning to do a wedding or elopement that involves hiking?
Be realistic about how much time things take; if you’re bringing guests with you they’ll need
to go at their own pace, so be strategic about which hike you pick. Also, remember that it’s your
responsibility to leave no trace of your being there, so be ready to pack any props and snacks
back out with you even if they’re biodegradable.

Brendan & Ali’s Apple Creek Golf Course Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

When Ali and Brendan emailed me about their wedding I got a little extra excited. Not only cause

Brendan was in one of my weddings in 2016, but also because they were planning their day at Apple Creek Golf Course.

Apple Creek is like 10 minutes from my house so yay! And I actually shot their first ever wedding.  In 2013 my couple

was meant to get married at the Calgary Zoo but the floods changed everything and they had to replan their wedding

in one short week.  Lucky for them they were able to have their ceremony at Apple Creek and it was beautiful!

Returning 5 years later to see the new ceremony and reception spaces was amazing! It is a

stunning place to get married! And major bonus that it only took me 10 minutes to get home ha ha.  Ali and Brendan

did a sweet first look in Brendan’s moms backyard and then we headed into Calgary for their photos.  Even though I

live in Airdrie, I rarely shoot here as I find they do not have alot of parks with dense tree coverage which is what I

prefer as a location.  They were up for driving if the location was worth it so we drove to the beautiful

Confederation Park. What we were not expecting when we got there was that there was three wedding

ceremonies going on. Basically all three of the spots I picked for photos were taken as they are the best spots ha ha.

But with a little bit of walking we actually found another gorgeous spot and with the smokey overcast we had

some dreamy lighting.  I just loved shooting this wedding party cause two of my other couples were in it and

all the bridesmaids names started with S so I actually was able to memorize them all ha ha.

After we were done photos we headed back to Airdrie for their ceremony which was super emotional and

so beautiful. The gazebo overlooked the course and we even had some golfers stop for a viewing….

they were in a couple photos but they moved promptly . We planned to head out at sunset for some photos

but with the smoke we did not have much for sun and the storm clouds were rolling in. We tried to beat the

storm and went out for some photos but only lasted about 3 minutes and the clouds dumped on us.

It was a mad rush back to the clubhouse and I think my golf cart was only on two wheels a couple times ha ha.

How did you guys meet ?

We met online on Tinder.

Please share the proposal story with us?

We bought our first house together and on the day we go the keys Brendan took the day off to move

our stuff from our old house but he actually went and picked up the ring which I was unaware of.

When I was done work I went to our new house to meet him and when I first came inside I saw an orchid

on the table and Brendan told me that it was because it was a special day. I started looking around the

house thinking he really didn’t get much done for taking the whole day off so I started unpacking

some of the boxes. Brendan kept trying to get my full attention but I was trying to get unpacked.

Eventually Brendan turn me to face him and then he got down on one knee and proposed. Ou

r friends came over to help us move but I was no help at all because I was so excited and

was calling my family to share the news.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride: Honestly the whole day! It was perfect. I loved getting ready with my girls and
my mom but my most memorable moments would be the first look and saying my own vows.
Our first look was so special! I am so happy that we got to share that first moment together on our
wedding day. Saying my own vows was also so memorable for me, sharing how much I love Brendan, why I wanted to
marry him, and my promises to him in front of our family and friends was monumental.
Groom: My most memorable moment from our wedding was reading my own vows to
Ali and having my friends and family be there to support me when I married my best friend.
Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?
Saying our own vows was something that made our wedding unique to us. We also included both
of our parents in our ceremony having them all walk down the aisle and they welcomed each
of us into their families in the ceremony. We had Brendan’s brother Jordie play the acoustic guitar
as everyone walked down the aisle.
Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you made for your wedding?
What made it so easy?
Finding my dress was so easy for me. We had just got engaged and I was back home visiting my mom
and sister and I wanted to do something to do with the wedding so we went wedding dress shopping.
I was not expecting to find anything, I just wanted to get some ideas because I had never really thought
about wedding dresses before. It was the third dress I tried on and I fell in love with it right away! I
ended up ordering it that day. I didn’t even know what some of the details were when I went back to try
it on for my first fitting but I still loved it!
What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day? And advice to couples on this?
The most difficult thing for me was finding my bridesmaids dresses. I spent so much time
looking everywhere online trying to find the perfect dress for the perfect price. Unfortunately, it was
vey difficult to find that for me. I ended up finding the perfect one that fit into our theme
and luckily my bridesmaids all liked it! My advice would be to start looking early and include them
as much as possible but in the end you just have to be happy with your decision.
Advice to couples planning their wedding day?
Wedding planning can be so overwhelming these days with all the added pressure of social media
and the endless possibilities. Before we really started planning we talked about what parts of
the wedding were really important to us like venue, and pictures so we made it a priority to find exactly
what we were looking for and weren’t prepared to just book something to book and move on. So my advice
would be to figure out what is important to you for your wedding and make that a priority and all the rest will
fall into place. My other advice is what everyone always says, plan your wedding the way you want
it to be, which is so true. At the end of the day, all the planning, decision making, and endless checklists, it is
all worth it on your wedding day when you are surrounded by so many important people to you
and everything is the way you want it to be!

Bryce & Alee’s The Ridge Okotoks Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

I had decided that my wedding season was fully booked and that my weekends were full and then this

amazing couple emailed me and I just could not say no to them.  It was kinda fate that they emailed when

they did as they booked me just 6 weeks before their day and hubs and I had just called off a planned

vacation for their weekend a couple days before that. If they had emailed me just one week earlier I would

have said I was unavailable but the stars aligned. I photographed Bryce’s sisters wedding just last summer

so I knew who they two were right away. And when we met for coffee it was like sitting with old friends

we chatted about our fluffy cute dogs and wedding stuff and on and on! And Bryce also just happened

to work with my husband as well so lots to talk about. As they told me about their intimate tent wedding

at The Ridge in Okotoks I just had photographer butterflies as it sounded like a dream.  Having a wedding

all at one location is just the best for timeline and photos.  They were both getting ready on the property

and both had fantastic spaces to spend their mornings and the property is beautiful for photos.

We did a bit of a different timeline for their day. To break up the photos we did some of their family photos

and some of the wedding party photos before the ceremony and then they shared a super sweet first look.

Once the guests started to arrive they tucked away to hide.  We had the perfect “overcast” (smokey) light for

their wedding. Us photographers don’t love to praise the smoke as it comes from such terrible circumstances

but it does make for beautiful light on wedding days. Alright enough blabbing from me. Here are some words

from the newlyweds.

How did you guys meet ?

We met at a friends Christmas party! It was definitely a “meant to be” moment because Bryce was only

invited last minute and I was supposed to work and was only able to get someone to cover my shift

that day! When I walked into the room I saw this guy sitting off to one side and my eyes instantly

went to him. We were introduced and then he finally asked me for my number after we met up a couple of days later

with the same group of people, we went out to a movie and the rest is history!!

Please share the proposal story with us?

Bryce had been out of town for work and I had suggested that when he came back we should

have a little date night since we hadn’t had one in a couple of months. So I thought we could go for

dinner and a movie, and Bryce decided he would plan it. I thought he was planning a surprise

because he wasnt telling me what he was planning but I thought the surprise was going to be going for

dinner at our favorite restaurant.

In the morning, Bryce had gone to play hockey so I got ready for the date night while

he was gone. We had planned to go to his parents house in Okotoks after he was done playing h

ockey to visit and then we were going to my parents house in Calgary to drop off our puppy so we didn’t leave her

home alone for too long while we were out.

While on our way out to Okotoks, he called to tell his mom we were getting close to the house and she said they

weren’t home yet, and that they were going to be another 30-45 mins. He suggested then that we take our puppy

for a little walk, while we waited, to burn off some of her energy. So, he drove us to “The Big Rock” just

outside of Okotoks to run her around there, since he and I had gone once before and hadn’t been back. When

we got there, I thought it was a little too cold, so I said he should just take her for a quick run and I’d watch from

the truck. But he convinced me to go and we started walking around The Big Rock. I was super focused on not s

tepping into really deep snow and wasn’t paying attention to much else, and then we had stopped walking all

of a sudden….. It turned out he hadn’t gone to play hockey that morning, instead he went to The Big Rock and set out an

adorable basket with roses and champagne!! I asked him what it was for and he said he wanted to

make our date night special! So I went to pick up the basket and when I turned back around he was getting

down on one knee!! I could not believe it! Plus he also had his friend hiding on the pathway taking pictures

of the whole thing! It was perfect!!!

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride

For me, the most memorable moment was walking down the aisle! It was so surreal! Seeing all our

family and friends was amazing! Also seeing Bryce tear up made it so special and meant so much!

Groom

It would have to be our first look, getting to finally see her in her dress for the first time and having it set in that the day was finally here!

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

We actually made a lot of the decorations and stuff for our wedding, with help from our families.

Bryce’s mom made my veil and then I glued on the rhinestones. Bryce’s Auntie made the bowties for our ring

bearers. Our center pieces were wine bottles that we all collected and painted. Bryce’s mom also sewed our aisle and table

runners. And we made our guest board/book for everyone to sign, along with other

chalkboards and the barn wood backdrop!

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision you

made for your wedding? What made it so easy?

The easiest decision we made for our wedding was probably our wedding style and colors. We

decided our style was going to be along the lines of “rustic chic.” We love the rustic style but we wanted

it to also be chic in terms of the fact that we wanted our wedding to be timeless. For our colors, we mostly modeled them around the

main accent color, rose gold/copper, we have in our house. Our decor all turned out so amazing!

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day?

And advice to couples on this?

The most difficult and time consuming choice was definitely our venue. It took us a lot of time and research

to find the “perfect” venue for us. And then three months before our wedding our venue could no longer host us,

so we had to scramble to find a new one! We found The Ridge and it ended up being an amazing venue and exactly what we

wanted! We completely believe that everything happens for a reason and this showed us just that!

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?

The first thing you should do is decide on your style for your wedding. Once you decide on your style

everything will be a lot easier to decide on. Your style will determine what kind of venues you look at, what dress

you choose, your colors, your decorations, your bridesmaid dresses, groomsmen attire, invites, everything!

And now here is Bruce & Alee’s Wedding Story

Edmonton Wedding Photographer | Matt & Chloe’s Leduc Stone Barn Gardens Wedding

Edmonton Wedding Photographer

Matt & Chloe’s Leduc Stone Barn Gardens Wedding

Red Bloom Photography

Sometimes I just have to pinch myself cause this dream job just really does feel like a dream to me.

People always ask if I always knew that I wanted to be a photographer or that if I went to school to be

a photographer and the answers are big no and no!  I actually grew up wanting to be a marine

biologist (something the bride and I have in common) and I went to school to be a teacher. My

career took a drastic turn when I planned my own wedding and realized my dream job was to be a

wedding photographer. Fast forward ten years and here i am living my dream…and what makes it

feels extra amazing is when a fellow extremely talented wedding photographer asked me to

photograph her very own day!  Chloe is the amazing talent behind Chloe Photo http://www.chloephoto.com/

I was just completely flattered and honored that they chose me

as the person to document their day. Matt and Chloe planned a beautiful romantic day after dating

for eight years and having two beautiful and very photogenic kids! As a photographer, Chloe planned

the perfect day with a dream timeline but mother nature had other plans and it poured and poured

the morning of their wedding. The rain delayed our timeline by a bit but when it finally cleared up

we were able to shoot their photos at the beautiful Stone Barn Gardens and the rain held off

for their ceremony….then….just as they exited their ceremony the sky opened up ! And it really opened

up. Everyone ran to their cars.  But as they say rain on your wedding day is good luck and we rolled with

it and finished off their family photos and portraits at their reception venue. Matt and Chloe’s reception

was filled with laughs and tears and two very cute thank you speeches by their adorable kids.

Before I get to their wedding story, here are some words from the newlyweds.

How did you guys meet?

We both got summer jobs at our local co-op grocery store in Calgary bagging groceries 8 years

ago. We were hired together and the rest is history! I still have our name tags! Ha!

Please share the proposal story with us?

Matt asked randomly if I wanted to go visit his grandfathers resting place in the mountains where

his ashes were spread. I said sure and we worked out a date to go up with his sister and her husband on

April 1 (Yes, April Fools!) We left our kids with my parents and decided to make our day date into a little

getaway and booked a hotel room for the night. We arrived and did a tiny hike up to Norquay

Mountain overlooking the valley. Matt asked his sister to take some photos of them (which I thought

was weird because he HATES photos!) and the next thing I knew he was down on one knee asking

me to marry him. I totally thought it was a mean April Fool’s joke but it was the real deal!

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Bride: The most memorable day for me… ah everything! The big, the little! All morning everybody

kept asking if I was nervous, if I’m okay. I felt fine the whole day and just wanted time to speed up.

When you’re marrying the right person, there’s no nervousness, no tummy aches – I just wanted to put on my

dress and see him. If I had to choose one thing though, I would have to say the most memorable part was

watching our kids walk down the aisle… it just put into perspective everything we’ve been

through to get here and it was a moment I had been waiting for since they were born.

Groom: Waiting for Chloe during our first look then all of a sudden hearing her

giggling behind me! She has the best laugh.

Tell me about the special aspects of your day that made it unique to you two?

I basically planned our entire Wedding so Matt had very little say in things hahaha he just

let me do what I wanted! The thing we did plan and want together though was having a caricature

there! It was just such a nice change from your typical photo booth and our guests RAVED about

it. We loved seeing everyones portraits and we love ours and can’t wait to find a place for it in our home.

Besides making the choice to marry each other, what was the easiest decision

you made for your wedding? What made it so easy?

The easiest decision we made was our vendors. Being in the Wedding industry I knew

the lineup I personally wanted and it also made the planning process a breeze. Your vendors can make or

break your wedding day and our vendors MADE our Wedding day. Matt even gave me a “good job

babe, our wedding was amazing” which was nice to hear after all the backlash I received doubling

our budget… LOL it’s worth it!!!!

What was the most difficult, time consuming choice that you made for your wedding day?

I think the most difficult thing was the food and drinks! LOL it’s so hard to assume

what people are going to eat and drink and how much they’re going to eat and drink!

Especially if you’re a people pleaser like myself. It helped to ask a handful of family members

what they would want and then you kind of get a ballpark.

Advice to couples planning their wedding day?

Oh man, so much advice! First of all, start the planning process early! Do your research on vendors and

go with your gut. Little things go wrong, even big things go wrong? Just know that nobody notices them except you.

We had some minor glitches and I thought our day was a mess at one point after a torrential down pour

right after our ceremony. But after chatting with guests they were so confused because they don’t

see whats going wrong! Don’t sweat the small stuff. Take a moment and enjoy all that you can.

It goes by so quickly and you’ll hate yourself for dwelling on those things that didn’t go as

you’d planned. And dance, make sure you dance!

And now here is Matt & Chloe’s Wedding Story

edmonton-wedding-photographeredmonton-wedding-photographeredmonton-wedding-photographerThere is something so extra special about documenting parents on wedding days.  I just love these

photos of Matt getting Carter ready. edmonton-wedding-photographeredmonton-wedding-photographeredmonton-wedding-photographeredmonton-wedding-photographerHello gorgeous details! I just love all the soft pretty textures and colors. edmonton-wedding-photographeredmonton-wedding-photographerIf you know Chloe you know she is a self confessed fast food addict so it was fitting that she had

fries on her wedding day! edmonton-wedding-photographeredmonton-wedding-photographerI was taking a photo of the girls in their robes when Carter (M& C’s son) walked in in his suit. Their
